Healing can be a hassle in Japan
Regardless of what difficulty you play on in Assassin's Creed Shadows, you're going to get hit and damaged by enemies or yourself. Whether you're trying to duel with a Samurai Daisho at a castle or simply jump off the wrong roof, your HP bar is going to go down at some point. By default in Assassin's Creed Shadows, you have access to three Rations, which are the primary source of healing for Naoe and Yasuke.
However, three Rations can only get you so far, and you'll soon need to know how to find some more healing supplies. There are a couple of ways to do so in Assassin's Creed Shadows, and you can see what they are in the guide below.

How to get more Rations in Assassin's Creed Shadows
As you might have already experienced, Rations are extremely difficult to come by in Feudal Japan. The three Rations you have access to by default don't restore a ton of HP either, so you're constantly looking for more healing supplies to have some protection against tougher enemies.

Unfortunately, Rations remain difficult to find all throughout your time in Assassin's Creed Shadows. While you can increase the number of Rations you can hold, this doesn't necessarily help things if you're still going through Rations and can't find ways to restore them.
The best way to restore Rations is by finding a "Refill Rations" station, which are located in various spots across the map. You can usually find these stations tucked away in the corners of enemy encampment buildings or out in the open near food wagons. These stations look like a wooden hamper with the lid halfway off and interacting with them refills all your Rations and restores any lost health.
Of course, trying to rely on finding these Ration stations isn't going to work most of the time. If you're exploring out in the world, having to go into enemy encampments to restore Rations and then possibly lose more health in the process isn't a great strategy. While the stations do help if you're trying to complete a castle or complete a quest, they're not overly common where you're constantly running into them to refill your Rations.
The other main way you can restore your Rations is by visiting a merchant in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Merchants are few and far between but all of them sell Rations you can buy to ensure you have a full stack. Merchants are usually located in larger towns across the map and they are indicated by four different icons, which lets you know what kind of vendor they are.

Aside from Ration stations and buying Rations from merchants, there are not a ton of other ways to heal in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Managing your health is a major part of the game and you have to ensure that you're always keeping up with your HP.
Just try to keep your HP up as much as possible, search for Ration stations when exploring enemy bases, and stop in every town to see if a merchant is nearby who can sell you Rations.
