Secure some resources for your Hideout

Early on in Assassin's Creed Shadows, you'll receive a side quest called "Smuggler's Run." This quest requires you to smuggle some resources from an enemy base so your Hideout can make use of them. While this sounds simple enough, it can be tough to accomplish, as the resources you have to smuggle aren't just lying out in the open in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Instead, you have to find an enemy base, open up a locked building, and make sure you have a Scout available to smuggle the goods. To see the Smuggler's Run quest broken down more, check out the guide below.

How to smuggle resources in Assassin's Creed Shadows

First and foremost, you don't need to smuggle resources in any singular location. You're free to smuggle resources anywhere on the map, but as I mentioned before, the resources aren't sitting out in the open.

The best place to complete the Smuggler's Run quest is by heading to any nearby castle in the starting region of Izumu Settsu, but any castle will do. Some of the early castles you can visit are Katano and Osaka Castle. At these castles, you're treated as a hostile and there are dozens of guards patrolling the grounds.

In various spots across the grounds, you'll be able to find locked buildings that contain a chest, a Hideout resource, and some resources that can be smuggled. To get a better idea of where these buildings are, travel around the castle grounds and use your "Observe" button (hold right-click on PC). By using the Observe button, you're able to see icons of loot and mark enemies that are nearby. The loot icon you're looking for is in the shape of a barrel. This indicates resources that can be smuggled and these are always inside small, locked buildings.

To get inside the buildings, you either need to wait for an enemy to open the door or find a key to unlock the door. Usually, if you use your Observe function, you'll be able to spot a key icon relatively close by to the building. The key is sometimes out in the open on a box or inside a building near the resources.

When you find the key or gain entry to the building, head inside and loot everything you can. Then, you'll see a stack of wood pallets with resources on them. If you approach these resources, you'll see "Smuggle Resources" text appear on the screen along with the icon for a Scout.

This text will either be white, which allows you to smuggle the resources, or it will be greyed out, meaning you can't smuggle them. The ability to smuggle the resources is contingent on whether or not you have a Scout currently available in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

How to complete Smuggler's Run in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Two Scouts are needed to smuggle the goods, and if you don't have two available, you can't use them. Scouts are used up by searching for objective markers on the map and you can have more than one of them if you recruit additional people. If you don't have two Scouts available, then you need to wait until they're free before you're able to smuggle any resources.

If you do have Scouts available, interact with the "Smuggle Resources" button and Naoe will mark the resources. Then, after some time, a Scout comes along, takes the resources, and hauls them back to your Hideout.

The first time you do this completes the Smuggler's Run quest in Assassin's Creed Shadows. However, you can continually smuggle resources as much as you want provided you have available Scouts to use. This is a great way to earn free resources for your Hideout so you can build more structures.
