How to fix CS:GO mic not working?

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, your mic might simply not work in the game. You might be talking into the microphone without anyone being able to hear! Here are a few simple steps to fix your mic and get back to communicating with your teammates. 

Check the default audio device on Windows

The first thing to check is your Windows microphone settings. Sometimes, the settings might have changed due to another program. Here’s how you go about it checking them:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon
  • Check the Input section of the Sound settings

Set default audio output in-game

The next step is to check your sound settings in the game. CS:GO has its own audio settings independent of the Windows settings. 

Following the two steps above should solve the problem in most cases.

The "Voice_enable 1" method

  1. Launch CS:GO

  5. Scroll down to Enable Developer Console and select Yes
  6. Press ~ on your keyboard (it will open your console)
  7. Write "voice_enable 1" and click submit

Update audio drivers

Keeping your drivers up-to-date is essential to have the latest features available to you. Sometimes old versions of the drivers might not work properly with certain applications. So check your audio drivers to ensure they are up to date.

Verify the integrity of game files

Windows Game mode settings

  • Search for Game Mode settings
  • Go to the Captures tab
  • Uncheck "Turn mic on by default when I record"
  • Turn on "Record audio when I record a game"
