How to eliminate a player with no ranged weapons in Fortnite

Fortnite is diverse in terms of how a player can eliminate opponents. The game offers a variety of weapons that will help you shred through the enemy. However, a recent Fortnite quest has tasked players with eliminating an opponent with no ranged weapons in their inventory while on foot. 

Today, we’ll explain everything you need to know about completing this quest, including what is a ranged weapon and some strategies. 

A ranged weapon in Fortnite is almost any weapon that fires ammunition or a projectile. Anything that can deal damage from a distance qualifies as a ranged weapon. 

Here’s a brief list of the items you’ll have to drop from your inventory to finish this quest:

You can also add other weapons, such as the Ex-Caliber Rifle. So, you might wonder what you can use if none of the above qualifies. We will cover that in the next section. 

As previously mentioned, you will need to get creative for this quest. Thankfully, Fortnite offers one non-ranged weapon this season that can be your key to victory. It’s called the Shockwave Hammer — one of our highest-ranking weapons to use in Chapter 4 Season 1. While most use the Hammer as a mobility item, it’s helpful as a weapon in and of itself. 

One approach is to grab a Shockwave Hammer early in the game. Then, your best bet would be to damage an opponent with a ranged weapon. After breaking their shield, drop all your ranged weapons and attack your enemy with the Shockwave Hammer. 

The Hammer deals 75 damage on hit, so keep that figure in mind when approaching the opposing player. If the elimination is successful, you should see the challenge completed notification appear on your screen. Shockwave Hammers can be found primarily in the Oathbound Chests, which we've provided a map of per Fortnite.GG.

Another way you can complete this quest is to eliminate an enemy with your Pickaxe. That’s a tall task, considering your harvesting tool is a non-ranged Fortnite weapon but only does 20 damage on hit. In any case, that’s still an option if the Shockwave Hammer method fails you. 

Either way, you must remember to drop all ranged weapons. Otherwise, the quest will not register successfully.
