Can you expect a performance mode for GTA 6?
Since the second trailer for GTA 6 was released, the community has been running rampant with different rumors and theories about different details of the game. Some players are saying there are hidden clues in the trailer that offer a release date for GTA 6, while others claim you can tell what the story will be about just from a few cutscenes. However, perhaps the most prominent theory that's been going around is that GTA 6 will run at 60 frames per second (FPS) on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Up until now, many in the community simply accepted that GTA 6 would run at the standard 30 FPS on console, which is considered "Graphics Mode" in most games. While Rockstar Games has yet to confirm anything about GTA 6's performance, the second trailer and other videos on the website for the game might indicate Rockstar has found a way to deliver 60 FPS.
GTA 6 could run at 60 FPS on consoles
The main reason why so many players believe that GTA 6 could run at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox is due to the cutscenes in the second trailer. Rockstar has confirmed that the second trailer footage was captured on a regular PS5, and not an Xbox Series X|S or PC.
While this normally wouldn't be a big deal, the second trailer runs completely smooth at a crisp 60 FPS. It's standard for cutscenes in trailers to feature higher performance, but there are also mixes of gameplay in the trailer that also appear to be running at a higher frame rate.
In addition to the trailer, if we take a look at the GTA 6 website, we can see even more videos that Rockstar Games posted. These videos showcase all of the unique locations in GTA 6 as well as short character footage that showcases some more in-depth shots of the protagonists, Jason and Lucia.

Well, these videos are also running at 60 FPS, and they were captured on PS5 as well.
Once again, the fact that the promotional videos and trailers are running at 60 FPS doesn't mean that the entire game of GTA 6 will follow suit. However, it is interesting that everything is being captured at such a high frame rate on a base PS5. At the very least, it gives players some hope that a Performance Mode could arrive with GTA 6 at launch for consoles.
It should be noted that games of similar size and quality to GTA 6 have often failed to reach 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Also of note, when GTA 5 originally launched on consoles, it only offered a maximum of 30 FPS. So, at this point in time, it seems more likely that GTA 6 launches without a Performance Mode, but the 60 FPS videos and trailers certainly make it seem possible.
We'll have to wait for Rockstar Games to give us more information about what to expect performance-wise in GTA 6, but with how long it took for trailer two to arrive, those details likely won't be coming soon.
