Hearthstone Mercenaries offers many Leveling and Farming possibilities, and this guide covers them all. You need to train your party to get them tough enough for the Fighting Pit. But, what is the most efficient way possible? In this guide, I will give you 10 tips to get the most out of your time and get your Mercenaries in shape!

Farming Experience Guide for Hearthstone Mercenaries

Your Mercenaries get experience participating in Bounties (PvE) or the Fighting Pit (PvP). PvE is the perfect starting point for our farming experience guide for new players and can be done with the basic Mercenaries that Hearthstone gives you for free. PvP rewards a lot more experience, but it has some tricks. Let’s start with 4 tips for Leveling in Hearthstone Mercenaries.

1. Basic Comp for PvE: BTX

Let’s start this guide with basics, you might have seen BTX if you were looking for Mercenary compositions. It stands for Blademaster Samuro, Thrall, and Xyrella, which are free Hearthstone Mercenaries you get and are ideal to level. With these three mercenaries, you will eventually be able to defeat every Bounty boss.

Why should I pick Samuro, Thrall and Xyrella?

The key of this composition is how well the three Mercenaries synergize. Thrall (that could also be Cariel) brings taunt and protection, then you can use Xyrella’s Blinding Luminance ability to combo with Samuro’s Double Strike.

This way, you activate Double Strike’s condition since Xyrella’s ability is faster, and you will gain Windfury on Samuro. If you want to try your own composition, the best thing is to go for tribal synergies since you can upgrade their power level with Treasures in bounties runs.

2. Farming Experience in the Fighting Pit

Next up in this Hearthstone Mercenaries guide: the Fighting Pit. Here you will get much more experience compared to PvE. However, the opponents you will be facing won’t be as easy as in bounties.

One important thing to mention in this guide is that with the PvP Matchmaking system, it is likely that your first Fighting Pit encounters will be against AI Bots.

This is not a bug, the system is intended to match you against opponents with compositions with a similar power level to yours. If there aren’t any real players with similar compositions, the matchmaking system will pair you against the AI.

You can even take a level 1 Mercenaries Party to the battle, and you will not be crushed. This way, if you have a good understanding of the game mechanics and a synergistic composition, you will be able to farm your Hearthstone Mercenaries experience at a fast speed.

3. Send your rookies to the bench to Farm Hearthstone Mercenaries experience

If you are comfortable beating Bounties bosses or facing the AI in the Fighting Pit, it would be a great idea to sit on the bench the Hearthstone Mercenaries you want to level. In Hearthstone Mercenaries, your whole party gets experience regardless of if they entered the battlefield or they were on the bench.

So, while your A Mercenaries team swipes opponents, your rookies will farm experience to have a great future in Hearthstone’s latest mode. Furthermore, when your A team is maxed out, all the experience will go directly to your rookies, boosting their levels at the speed of light!

If you want a competitive party of Hearthstone Mercenaries, you will need to unlock all their abilities. Completing 7 tasks for each mercenary is the only way to get that third ability that might be game-winning.

You will also earn coins to upgrade Abilities and Equipment, but we will talk about that later. Now, let’s dive into the part of this guide where to farm tasks in Hearthstone Mercenaries.

4. Campfire and Mysterious Encounters

The two only ways to get tasks in Hearthstone Mercenaries are the daily tasks in the Campfire or by Mysterious Encounters in Bounties, let me guide you so you can farm everyone you get. If you Mercenaries interests you, it will be worth it to put some gold into upgrading the Campfire.

You will get more daily visitors that bring Tasks for you to complete. Once fully upgraded, the Campfire can host up to four Mercenaries, on top of Toki’s daily tasks.

Another source of Mercenaries’ tasks is the Mysterious Encounters. Once in a while, during your bounty runs, you will find a Mysterious Encounter.

One of the random possibilities is that you find a Mysterious Stranger that will be a Mercenary asking for help completing a task. This grind is part of the game and might seem “random” at first glance.

However, there is an efficient way of farming tasks in Hearthstone Mercenaries, follow me to the fifth step of this 10 tips guide!

5. Farming Barrens’ Air Elemental Heroic Bounty

The most efficient way of running into a Mysterious Encounter in Hearthstone Mercenaries is to farm the Air Elemental bounty in The Barrens. In these Heroic encounters, you are guaranteed to get a Mysterious Encounter after two fights max, but it can be only one if you are lucky

. If you happen to find a Mercenary task, you take it and then retire your party from the bounty to repeat this cycle to maximize your chance of getting another Mysterious Stranger encounter.

6. Tailor your Hearthstone Mercenaries party to Focus your Farming

When entering a bounty run, you can select a party of up to six mercenaries. It is not that intuitive that sometimes it is better to run a party of just 3 mercenaries. This way, you focus your experience gains, and more importantly, whenever you get a Mysterious Stranger, you will get tasks for the three mercenaries in your party.

Eliminating the RNG aspect of the Mysterious Stranger helps to compensate for the fact that many times you only get a Hot Potatoe, Blue Portal, or other unwanted options in the Mysterious Encounters.

7. Don’t forget to claim your tasks rewards

As silly as it sounds, we couldn’t leave this tip out of this Hearthstone Mercenaries guide. If you don’t claim your rewards for tasks, it could make you lose future tasks. In Hearthstone Mercenaries, you can get up to four Daily Mercenaries tasks, so make sure you have the four slots empty by the end of the day to maximize your farming.

In the same sense, you must have free slots whenever you accept a task from a Mysterious Stranger. If you don’t have space, you will only get coins and no task progress.

One thing that many players don’t know is that you can go to your Campfire to claim task rewards directly from your Bounty run screen if you scroll all the way down. Just select your Campfire, click in Visit, and you will be able to save some clicks and loading time while farming.

Farming Coins Guide for Hearthstone Mercenaries

Coins are the currency in Hearthstone Mercenaries and are important to farm them since you will need them to upgrade Abilities and Equipment. Coins are specific to each mercenary, so if you want to upgrade a character, you check the following tips in this guide about the most efficient way of farming coins in Hearthstone Mercenaries.

8. Aim for what you want

Each Bounty in the PvE section gives coins for specific characters and some extra ones for random Mercenaries in your party. This allows you to make your coin farming more efficient in Hearthstone Mercenaries. Just choose a Bounty that you can clear easily that rewards you with the coins you want. The higher the experience level the bounty has, the better rewards you will earn. This table from Reddit user td941 should help you.

9. Make sure to cash in your PvP daily rewards

As we have already mentioned in the guide, even if you don’t have the best Hearthstone Mercenaries in town, you can still farm in the PvP Fighting Pit. With as little as 6 wins, you can earn a similar amount of coins that 3 packs would have. You can keep on going for infinite rewards.

The first chest unlocks at one win, the second one on two, and keeps on increasing until you get a five-wins-chest. This last chest will keep on popping every time you complete it, so if you have time, you can go for the extra loot. However, the most efficient usage of time is to at least get the first two chests.

10. Don’t spend gold in packs to get Coins

In the previous point, we stated how little effort you had to put into PvP to farm coins. This makes buying packs one of the least efficient ways to get coins in the game, considering that you don’t generate much gold while playing Mercenaries. If you still want to buy packs to open mercenaries, you can get all the details of how many packs you need for a complete collection in the following article:
