Sometimes, your team just doesn’t have it.
Let's face it, sometimes there's no winning a match in Marvel Rivals. Maybe your team composition was off from the start, a player left midway through a match, or you have some not-so-talented players on your team. In any case, if you just want to lose some rank progress and get on to the next match in Marvel Rivals, you might want to consider using the surrender feature.
The surrender feature was added over the holiday break at the end of 2024 and most players agreed it's a welcome addition. Few players want to spend several minutes in a match when they know they're going to lose. Now, you can simply vote to end a match instead of wasting time that could be spent searching for another match.
Some stipulations come with surrendering in Marvel Rivals, though. We'll go over those and how to use the feature in the guide below.
How to surrender a match in Marvel Rivals
First and foremost, the surrender feature is only available in Competitive Play. You can't vote to surrender a match in Quick Play, so you'll simply have to wait out the inevitable loss in those games.
As for Competitive Play, you can start a vote to surrender, which requires the majority of your team to accept or reject the choice to stop the match and take the loss. So, in most cases, you need four votes to surrender in order for the vote to pass. If your teammates decide they want to keep playing and reject the vote, then the match continues as normal.
To call for a vote to surrender, you simply need to press the pause button and select the "Surrender" option from the drop-down boxes. It's located right above the "Customer Support" box. Once you click that, a vote will be called to surrender, and the prompt will appear on your teammates' screens. From there, they need to either accept or reject the vote.

This is where some of the stipulations come into play with the surrender feature. You can see exactly how surrendering works below:
- A vote to surrender can only be called after the first round of a Competitive Play match has concluded.
- Only one vote to surrender can be called per round by each player after the first round. So, technically, there can be six votes to surrender called every round if every player calls for one.
- At the start of a new round, a player who previously called for a vote can call for another.
Surrendering in Marvel Rivals has its advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes, you absolutely know you're going to lose a match and surrendering is the best way forward. Whether it's because a teammate disconnected, went AFK, or is actively throwing off team composition on purpose, some matches are simply unwinnable.
However, there are other times when things look bleak but can be turned around in the blink of an eye. Of course, if you vote to surrender before that can happen, you might have cost yourself a win. It's important to know when to call for a vote and when not to.
