While it’s not as popular as the other final forms of Legends: Z-A starters, Emboar remains a reliable heavy hitter due to its powerful type combination.
In addition to its Grass-, Steel-, Ice-, and Bug-countering arsenal, Emboar’s secondary type, Fighting, makes it capable of taking down Normal, Rock, and Dark-type foes with ease.
And since Pokémon Legends: Z-A deviated from the usual formula of strategic turn-based battles, you’ll need a Moveset that will allow Emboar to execute its moves quickly before its opponents throw their attacks.
Here are all the moves that you can teach to your Emboar so it can deal optimal damage and survive in combat, such as one-on-one Trainer battles and fights against Rogue Mega Pokémon and Alpha Pokémon.

As you see, all of the moves above deal Physical damage to take advantage of Emboar’s highest stat.
Speed isn’t Emboar’s forte, which can be problematic in Legends: Z-A battles. You need to act faster than the other Trainer’s Pokémon, which is why it should have moves with low cooldown and fast animation time.
Fire Punch is an excellent STAB move for Emboar, and it works well in initiating sneak attacks on unsuspecting Trainers in the Z-A Royale.
Brick Break is another powerful tool in Emboar’s arsenal, since it provides the pig Pokémon coverage against Rock types. You can also use this move as a finisher for most Pokémon, in case they survived Fire Punch.

Depending on the situation, you can try other good moves on Emboar, such as:
- Iron Head – good against Fairy types that can throw Psychic-type moves.
- Rock Slide – can replace Thunder Punch, although it’s less efficient because it’s not super effective against Water types and you already have a good counter for Bug types.
- Earthquake – great choice if you don’t have a Ground-type attacker in your party.
- Zen Headbutt – if you want counters against other Fighting-types.

While these moves will likely KO most Pokémon, the problem lies with their cooldowns and the recoil effects that can whittle down Emboar’s HP quickly.
Despite Emboar’s impressive HP, its low Defense and Special Defense stats make it surprisingly fragile against stronger opponents, so self-damaging moves are far from ideal for this Pokémon.
