In Teamfight Tactics, augments can greatly affect your success. Here are three tips to help you climb to your desired rank and beyond.
In the current iteration of Teamfight Tactics (TFT), there is a TFT augment system that allows you to make meaningful decisions throughout the course of the game that can greatly affect your success.
The most important thing to understand about augments is that it's impossible for them to be perfectly balanced. Depending on the meta and the state of augment balance, some of them will inevitably have more value than others. It's your job to decide your best option for success.
Should you select one of the three augments displayed in front of you? Should you reroll to find better options? In order to take advantage of TFT augments, it's essential to know these three tips to climb the ranks.
To successfully climb with TFT augments, you should utilize a website called tactics.tools. This website shows the average placement of every augment in relation to the stage they’re offered at.
Visit tactics.tools, hover over the "Stats" drop-down menu, and select the "Augments" option.
From there, at the top right, select "GM+" for the current patch. A very low sample size for the augment will be indicated by an exclamation mark in front of the stat. To combat that issue, select "Master+" or "Diamond+" for more accurate results from a larger sample size.
You can use the search bar to find the augments offered when looking for your augment choices. Be sure to look at the average placement at stages 2-1, 3-2, and 4-2, depending on when you received the augment selection. The lower the number, the better the average placement. The better the average placement, the more likely you'll do well based on the data.
Climbing in TFT efficiently requires looking to play for your best average placement. The goal shouldn't be to go for first place every game. Secure top-four finishes to gain League Points (LP) and avoid bottom-two finishes in order to mitigate the losses of LP.
As a disclaimer, you can use this tool when you aren’t sure which option is your best one. Always be cognizant that some augments offered will have better stats than others, but may not fit your game plan. Do not blindly pick only based on stats for every selection of every single game. However, if you do utilize tactics.tools to its maximum potential for TFT augments, then you will climb!
2. TFT augment tree
This TFT augment tree depicts the type of augment you will be offered given what has already appeared in your game.
The numbers near the tree's lines depict the percentage chance you have of seeing a certain augment type. This is an important resource because knowing what augment type you are likely to receive can change some of your planning and decisions.
For example, in the event that a prismatic hero augment can be or is guaranteed to be offered at 4-2, you can make the decision to wait until 4-2 to use gold to level up in case you are offered the augment “Level Up.”
Another example is if you know that hero augment is guaranteed on 4-2, then there is a good chance you will want to make sure you are playing around a three, four, or five-cost carry rather than a one-cost or two-cost reroll carry. However, if you are already playing a two-cost reroll carry like Yuumi, then you can plan for the best three-cost hero augment that you will need to keep your team competitive. An example of this is Jubilant Veil, which is Nilah’s three-cost support hero augment.
3. Guaranteed support hero augments
Recently, Riot Games patched the TFT augment system to give four hero augment rerolls to players.
Game design director of TFT, Mortdog, recently confirmed a nuance about the feature. The rightmost option in each hero augment roll will always be the support version of the hero augment. Support hero augments allow you to buff up your entire team just by playing a certain unit. They also give you the flexibility to drop that unit in lieu of a stronger board in the future.
