Finally, our prayers have been answered!

The Akimbo Mozambique's are finally getting nerfed in Apex Legends. A hotfix has been deployed today, October 10, to reduce the power of these weapons. The community have been crying out for changes to the Akimbo Mozambique's almost immediately after they released at the start of Season 22.

Here's what has changed about these weapons.

Akimbo Mozambiqe nerfs in full:

Here are the patch notes for the Akimbo Mozambique nerf.

  • Single & Akimbo Mozambique have had their rate of fire reduced at base and all bolt rarities
  • Magazine Size for a single is reduced to 5 (was 6)
  • Magazine Size for Akimbo reduced to 10 (was 12)
  • Blast pattern scale increased
  • When using Akimbo Mozambiques, the projectile size is now reduced (normalized to other shotguns)

It's been a long time since we saw such large scale changes to a weapon in Apex Legends outside of a season or mid-season update. This is likely as a result of a huge outcry for major changes to these weapons, which have been absolutely dominant so far this season.

Will the Akimbo Mozambiques still be good after they were nerfed?

When a weapon was as good as the Akimbo Mozambique's were, it would take a much bigger nerf to make them totally unusable. However, this is a significant change and will be noticeable in your games.

In particular this nerf will significantly reduce how good the Akimbo Mozambique's feel at long distances. Previously, you could deal a lot of damage at mid range, making these weapons very flexible. Now, they will only be suitable to use at close range. This change brings the Akimbo Mozambique's inline with other shotguns in Apex Legends.

However, at close range, these will still be a very good choice. You might now not feel quite so obligated to use this weapons over other close range options. They will still be a very strong choice but if you have a Mastiff, EVA-8 or Peacekeeper you'll be able to compete with Akimbo Mozambiques now they have been nerfed.
