Lifeline is getting revived in Season 23. Here’s the details on Lifeline’s Apex Legends rework.

Lifeline is finally getting her long rumoured rework when Apex Legends Season 23 releases. This will be the first time any of the games original legends has been reworked since the game released all the way back in 2019.

Lifeline will be keeping her core identity as a healer. However, she is getting a series of changes designed to bring her much more in line with the current state of Apex Legends. In particular, developers were keen to remove her Care Package, that started to feel significantly out of date.

Here's what her new kit has to offer, and some of the thoughts behind the changes directly from Respawn developers.

Everything you need to know about Apex Legends Season 23:

Lifeline rework new Apex Legends abilities

Here are all of Lifeline's abilities after the Apex Season 23 Lifeline rework.

Passive:

  • Lifeline keeps her combat revive, and additionally gains the ability to use D.O.C to Glide in air for a short amount of time.

Tactical:

  • D.O.C no longer hovers in place. It will follow an assigned teammate (or Lifeline) and heal everyone in range. This will allow teams to benefit from this ability without having to shelter in place.

Ultimate:

  • D.O.C can now throw down a Halo, a ring shaped shield that blocks all damage. However, it does not have a top (or bottom) so you could still be vulnerable to ordinance or some Ultimate Abilities. Enemies can pass through the Shield. Additionally, all players inside D.O.C's Halo get fast heals.

These all new abilities will help Lifeline get more involved in the action, and not feel sluggish and outdated compared to newer legends.

Don't forget that this Lifeline rework comes alongside the huge buffs to Support Class Legends in Apex Season 23. Lifeline also benefits from all the new Class Perks at the same time as getting these refreshed abilities.

Why did developers feel Lifeline needed a revive?

Speaking ahead of Season 23's launch, Evan Furnell, the Legend Designer who worked on Lifeline's rework, revealed that the team felt original Lifeline's playstyle had become too stationary for the modern game.

"Her overall playstyle was fairly stationary. Her Drone before was placed in one spot and the whole team had to come back to it and regroup on it all the time. So it made it something that was only effective in-between fights. Maybe in a pinch you'd be able to get it off. But it was never something that was always the most effective in the middle of a fight.

"It was the same thing with her Ultimate. Her Ultimate was something that was very loot oriented. So, for the most part, it was just something that you would have to call down after a fight. Maybe you could drop it down for some cover in the middle of a fight. But, it was never something giving her much combat potential. So for fitting into her role as a combat medic, she wasn't keeping up with some of the characters around her.

"For this Lifeline rework, we were looking at ways we can keep her engaged in the fight, keep her engaged in with her team and allow for her to reset more effectively, or heal [her team] and manage the healing, so she feels like a proper support that's having to keep an eye more on her teammates health and keep them topped up in the middle of a fight."
