Shopify Rebellion enters Dota with ex-EG Dota 2 roster & SabeRLight

Shopify Rebellion signs former Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster and former TSM offlaner, SabeRLight hours before roster lock.

North American organization, Shopify Rebellion has signed the former Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster, and former TSM offlaner SabeRLight. The last-minute announcement arrived just hours before the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) roster lock.

Shopify Rebellion, a name that might be foreign to Dota 2 fans, is an esports organization that houses teams across titles like Valorant, Starcraft, and Rocket League. The Canadian-based team emerges into the Dota 2 scene with a bang as they acquire a lineup of notable Dota 2 figures.

Here is the Shopify Rebellion Dota 2 roster for the 2022/2023 DPC:

  • Artour "Arteezy" Babaev
  • Abed "Abed" Yusop
  • Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek
  • Andreas "Cr1t-" Nielsen
  • Tal "Fly" Aizik
  • Kanishka 'Sam' "BuLba" Sosale (Coach)

SabeRLight departs TSM to join Shopify Rebellion Dota

To the surprise of many, TSM announced SabeRLight's departure earlier today. This was unexpected due to the team's great chemistry with SabeRLight and there were also no rumors surrounding this change. On top of that, nobody was expecting departures so close to the roster lock deadline.

Right after the announcement, Shopify Rebellion revealed that it had picked up SabeRLight to join the ex-EG roster. In a hilarious clip, that shares meme-ish resemblance to Nigma Galaxy's video, SabeRLight announced his entrance as a Rebel.

A new home after years

These former EG players have spent a long time with the organization and with them representing a new org, it certainly feels new. Arteezy and Cr1t represented EG for the longest time since 2016, marking a six-year stint with the organization. Fly, on the other hand, despite a window of absence when he played for Talon Esports, has been with EG for almost four years. Young Filipino, Abed moved across the globe in 2019 to play as EG's midlaner. Last but not least, Bulba had multiple stints with EG throughout his career as a player before settling to coach EG for five years.

These players have great chemistry and bond and with the addition of the happy-go-lucky SabeRLight, Shopify Rebellion seemed to have formed a strong Dota 2 lineup. It is one of the most convincing and promising teams on paper, and we might see some incredible NA Dota 2 action soon.

The upcoming DPC season would see the same faces but a completely different journey. Shopify Rebellion will compete alongside top NA teams such as TSM and nouns starting from January 2023.
