Avatar 3 is now called Avatar Fire and Ash

James Cameron along with actors Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington revealed the name for Avatar 3 - Avatar Fire and Ash during the D23 expo. This is the third movie in the Avatar franchise, one of the most popular movie franchises in the world. The announcement also revealed the release date for the third movie and we feel you might not be too happy with it. 

Avatar Fire and Ash is the next movie in the series and was revealed at the D23 expo in California on August 10, 2024. The movie will release in late 2025 and will continue the cinematic experience that amazed the world with its graphics and filmmaking. 

“You’ll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before,” Cameron said to Variety. “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before,” Cameron said during the presentation. “We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”

Avatar Fire and Ash was shot back to back along with the second movie in the franchise - Avatar: Way of Water. Way of Water released in December 2022 and grossed $2.3 Billion in collections. 

Fire and Ash will pick up after the events of Way of Water where Jake Sully, Neytiri and their family successfully fight back the RDA. They lose their eldest son in the process. The Fire and Ash will pick up after those events where the clan meets the Ash People. The Ash people are more inclined to violence as per James Cameron and it will be interesting to see how the movie progresses henceforth.

Avatar Fire and Ash releases in December 2025. So there is almost one and a half years for the movie’s release since its announcement. 

The cast for Avatar Fire and Ash will be very much similar to that of Way of Water. However, there will be several new characters who will also be joining the cast. In James Cameron’s own words,

“There are new characters, one especially I think you’re gonna love, or love to hate.”
