Looks like Grow a Garden is about to get a Hollywood treatment.
Story Kitchen, a studio known for bringing famous video games to the big screen, announces their intention to produce a movie based on the popular Roblox farming game, Grow a Garden.
Story Kitchen’s co-founders, Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg, believed that Grow a Garden’s setting is just the kind of world that they want to adapt due to its “imaginative and heartfelt world, which is rooted in play, creativity, and community.”
What would a Grow a Grow a Garden movie feel like?
With Johnson and Goldberg also included in the roster of producers, they revealed that while they don’t have an official plot for the movie yet, they want the film to target audiences of all ages, and its story should revolve around friendship, growth, and the magic of nurturing something from the ground up.
Story Kitchen also discussed their coordination with the creators of Grow a Garden to ensure that they can create a movie narrative that perfectly fits the game’s overall theme.
A dying game? Apparently not
Based on the most recent stats on the platform, Grow a Garden now only stands as the seventh most played game on Roblox. However, during the first half of 2025, the game took the community by storm after it kept on receiving record-breaking numbers of concurrent players. It all started when it exceeded Blox Fruits’ record of 2.7 million, until it exploded to as much as 22 million in June, which is significantly higher than Fortnite’s record of 15 million.
Other Roblox games eventually gained momentum to compete with Grow a Garden, with 99 Nights in the Forest, Plants Vs Brainrots, and Steal a Brainrot leading the charge. Nevertheless, Grow a Garden still occasionally receives a surge in player count whenever there’s an admin event going on, where players can obtain rare seeds, items, and pets, as well as special mutations to their plants.
Grow a Garden film adaptation release date
The movie is still in its early development, so at the time of writing, the producers never mentioned anything about its possible release date.
Grow a Garden fans should still hope for the best, considering the studio behind the movie is also working on other big projects, such as Sonic the Hedgehog series, Tomb Raider, Life is Strange, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which is one of the top contenders for the 2025 Game of the Year award.
