Here is everything you need to know about pets in Fortnite!
Sidekicks are the hottest new thing coming to Fortnite. The long-rumored "pets" have been floating around the game's various leaker accounts for several months, and Epic Games has finally announced a release date and more.
While the announcement wasn't all positive, the game is adding essentially another accessory for players to enjoy throughout their experience. Here is everything you need to know about the admittedly precious idea of pet companions in Fortnite.
When are Sidekicks coming to Fortnite?
Epic Games has formally announced that Companions will be active in Fortnite beginning on Saturday, Nov. 1, coinciding with the Simpsons mini-season. The Peely-inspired puppy, which appeared in the Sidekicks trailer, will be available in the Simpsons Battle Pass.
More Sidekicks are to follow in the Item Shop rotation on Friday, Nov. 7. From then on, Sidekicks you can expect them in Item Shop cycles and other Battle Passes.
What are Sidekick Points?
Fortnite's blog post on the topic mentioned Sidekicks Points (SP), which is basically currency you can exchange for more customizable options. You can earn SP just by having your companion alongside in matches.
How does the customization work?
The amount of customization comes down to the individual Sidekicks, meaning some have more options than others. However, a massive caveat to point out is that you can only customize each Sidekick once.
Much like the Maya skin from Chapter 2 Season 2, you will eventually complete the customization of your pet and can no longer edit it. Epic Games does mention that you can buy the same Sidekick more than once to have different aesthetic options.
More quick things to know about Fortnite Sidekicks

- You can use Sidekicks in every mode except Rocket Racing
- You can purchase and customize the same pet multiple times
Overall consensus of Fortnite "Companions"
The customization aspect of Sidekicks has already come under fire from the Fortnite fandom. Players believe you should be able to customize infinitely after purchasing it. It's difficult to disagree with that standpoint.
This will be one of the only instances where players have to buy multiple versions of the same thing to achieved different results. Sidekicks should merely have alternate styles like skins to make them more worthwhile to purchase.
Otherwise, they're a fun addition to the game, which continues growing in the number of options and cosmetics to standout from the rest.
