Fortnite’s new 37.40 update shuffled the loot pool and overall game experience significantly. Here’s everything that changed!
The KPop Demon Hunters have officially arrived in Fortnite, bringing new skins, a new Demon Rush game mode, and even some in-game items. In an unexpected twist, Fortnite's v37.40 update also changed many of the season's core features, including the OXR rank system, the bug enemies, and more.
Here is everything you need to know about the latest update before you exit the Battle Bus.
What's new and what changed in the Fortnite v37.40 update?
Osirion was one of the first resources to report the complete overhaul to Chapter 6 Season 4. The current season, which is bug-invasion themed, has removed nearly everything related to that concept. Those changes include the bug enemies, queen bosses, Medallions, and much of the bug-related loot.
Additionally, the OXR rank system, which arrived under a different name in Season 3, no longer exists as of Fortnite's v37.40 update. This marks one of the most unexpected midseason changes in recent memory.
The new additions to Season 4 include various KPop Demon Hunters-related items, including a Bubble Shield, a Sword, a Rameyon consumable, and a teleporting mask.
Here is a complete look at everything new per Osirion:
It's also worth noting that while the bunkers still exist, they no longer contain any Exotic weapons.
Are these changes permanent?
That is the million-dollar question as it stands. As we mentioned above, Epic Games has removed the entire season's theme. Since the Fortnitemares 2025 update is coming soon and Season 4 will end on Nov. 1, the bug component may not return.
It appears that the Fortnite v37.40 update marks a transition from the bug-invasion theme to the Fortnitemares update, which is expected to introduce some notable changes upon its release on Oct. 9. However, only time will tell as October continues.
