Nearly seven full months after it was announced, Ghost of Yōtei has a release date, and it is much closer than you think.
Ghost of Yōtei was revealed as the pinnacle game of the September 2024 State of Play. During the amazing unveiling, we saw a few glimpses of the breathtaking sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
On April 23, 2025, PlayStation and Sucker Punch Productions dropped another bombshell, announcing the date on which Ghost of Yōtei will launch and some other tantalizing features.

Ghost of Yōtei release date confirmed
In a surprising trailer drop, PlayStation announced the release date for Ghost of Yōtei as October 2, 2025. This release date will put the game almost an entire year after its original announcement. Even so, the hype around the new title from Sucker Punch Productions is off the charts.
Set in 1603, a little over three decades after the events of its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei will take on the theme of vengeance. This time, players will follow the story of Atsu, a female warrior, as they venture into Hokkaido, Japan. The theme of vengeance stands strong in the newly released trailer. In this we learn of Atsu's task and where her journey will take us.
Sixteen years ago, in the heart of Ezo, a gang of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six took everything from Atsu. They killed her family and left her for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree outside her home. But Atsu survived. She learned to fight, kill, and hunt, and after years away, she has returned to her home with a list of six names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.
One by one, she’s hunting them down to avenge her family, armed with the same katana used to pin her to that burning tree all those years ago. But while Atsu’s story begins with vengeance, she’ll find there’s more to her journey than just revenge. As she explores Ezo, Atsu will meet unlikely allies and forge connections that help give her a new sense of purpose.”
With a completely new story, Ghost of Yōtei keeps the same visually amazing journey that Ghost of Tsushima gave us. With new weapons, an evolved open world, and friends and foes around every corner, the new game is set to be one of the biggest releases of 2025.
While a completely random trailer drop, Ghost of Yōtei is gearing up for a massive launch on Oct. 2. It has also been confirmed that pre-orders for the game will begin on May 2, with multiple editions available.
