Celebrate ten years of Fazbear Fun with Spring Bonnie!

The next game in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series has leaked online. A trailer for the game, titled “Into the Pit”, was found by fans as an unlisted YouTube video and referenced by Scholastic Books in an advertisement. Scott Cawthon, the creator of FNAF, confirmed that Into the Pit is real and that it will release for the 10th anniversary of the franchise.

The game will have a 2D pixel art style, a first for the series beyond short minigames and the intro to the FNAF movie. Based on the title and leaked trailer, it seems that Into the Pit will be based on the Fazbear Frights book of the same name.

What is 'Into the Pit' about?

Into the Pit is a 2D pixel horror game currently in development by Mega Cat Studios. The game is based on the story of the first Fazbear Frights book, also titled Into the Pit. The story follows a ten-year-old boy on his summer vacation as he discovers a rundown pizza restaurant with a mysterious ball-pit hidden inside.

Into the Pit has a very interesting concept, one that almost seems like an episode of the Twilight Zone. The story involves a time-travelling ball pit, a Spring Bonnie body-swap that only the protagonist can see, and -as is tradition in FNAF- more child murder.

The main villain of this story is, of course, Spring Bonnie. This means that we’ll get to see ol’ William Afton in full pixel art glory in both 1985 and present day. The trailer for FNAF: Into the Pit shows Spring Bonnie stalking the main character, presumably named Oswald like the book, through multiple Fazbear themed settings.

What was Scott Cawthon's response to the FNAF: Into the Pit trailer leak?

Scott Cawthon isn’t upset that information about Into the Pit leaked early. He’s just chill like that, for real. Cawthon responded to a Reddit thread by the mods on r/fivenightsatfreddys about the leaks. He wrote:

“No need to keep it all hush-hush. It’s okay! Yes, I was trying to keep it a secret for a bit longer, but now that it’s out, that’s fine. This game has been in development for a really long time actually, and I’m really proud of the final product. It will be a 10th anniversary game!”

This response is drastically different from when the FNAF Roblox game leaked early. When that happened, he wrote on Reddit:

“This is a game in its infancy; temp assets; temp gameplay, unfinished everything. The fact that it got dropped today suddenly on the public just blows my mind. Apparently  there was a huge misunderstanding when I approved a skin, and it was interpreted as RELEASE THE GAME.”

So it seems that Scott Cawthon is okay with Into the Pit sneaking its way out of the pizzaplex ruins a little early.

When does Into the Pit come out?

So far, we don't know when Into the Pit will release officially. We only know that Into the Pit and its trailer are intended for the 10th anniversary of FNAF. That date is August 8, 2024, so perhaps we'll have another trailer in the next couple of months and the game sometime in early August.
