According to the Nintendo President, we can expect an announcement about the Nintendo Switch 2 this fiscal year.

After months of rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2, the company has finally thrown a bone to its customers. We now know the console exists, as officially confirmed by the company, in typical Nintendo fashion.

And we also know that we can expect an official reveal "within the current fiscal year". This means we could see an official announcement anytime between now and March 2025. This little detail was revealed in a Tweet by the official Nintendo Company account quoting Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced "within this fiscal year"

Let's get the main news out of there then. Nintendo's Tweet quotes the president, Shuntaro Furukawa. In this tweet, he claims the company will announce the "successor to the Nintendo Switch" during this financial year.

He also stated that the company will be holding a Nintendo Direct in June this year, and that the device would not be revealed during this Nintendo Direct. This means we can expect the Nintendo Switch successor to be officially revealed any time between June 2024 and March 2025.

This also aligns with rumors that claim the Nintendo Switch 2 could launch early in 2025. Truth be told, we don't even know if the device will be called the Switch 2 because the Nintendo President has referred to it as the successor to the Switch in his announcement.

It has been a quiet year for the Nintendo Switch, with only two titles confirmed so far. These are Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, releasing on May 23 and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which releases on June 27.

According to the Tweet from the official Nintendo Account, the Nintendo Direct in June will be "regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024." Hopefully, this means we're getting a few more games for the existing Nintendo Switch consoles.

What do we know about the Nintendo Switch 2?

The Tweet was the first official confirmation of the existence of a Switch 2. However, we already knew the console exists thanks to updates from third party Nintendo Switch accessory manufacturer Mobopad.

According to Mobopad, most third party manufacturers have seen the device but don't have details on it. The company claims the Switch 2 will receive minor changes to the dock and retain UBS-C support. It will also be upgraded to handle 4k resolutions.

The most interesting detail was that the Joy-con controllers will use a new magnetic attachment system, and ditch the existing rail-slide system. These details from Mobopad were revealed by Spanish Outlet Vandal.

We can neither verify nor deny these claims but as of now, all of these are still rumors. We'll simply have to wait for the official reveal to see if these are true. We also know that Nintendo has a 10-year deal with Microsoft over the Call of Duty, so it is very likely this deal includes the next generation of Nintendo consoles.
