A few months from now, a Skyrim mod featuring the storyline of Oblivion will make its way to The Elder Scrolls community.
Creators of Skyblivion, a fan-made remake of the award-winning action RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, shared some important development updates as they held firm to their target of releasing it as a Skyrim mod later this year.
In a recent YouTube video posted by Rebelzize, Skyblivion’s PR lead, the developers finally explained the reason behind the continuation of their 12-year-old project despite Bethesda already releasing Oblivion Remastered in April 2025.
“Skyblivion is a full-scale remake that reimagines Oblivion from the ground up, bringing it in line with modern RPG standards. While the official remaster impressively upgrades textures and assets, Skyblivion introduces entirely newly designed areas, dungeons, cities, gameplay enhancements, and much more.”
The case of Skyblivion and Oblivion Remastered gave the gaming community some insight into the differences between a remaster and a remake.
Fans looking to return to Cyrodiil and fight in the Battle for Castle Kvatch might want to try Skyblivion, as it offers a fresh look at how a game can be played from a non-Bethesda perspective, as well as enjoy several fan-made gameplays and QoL improvements that aren’t present in the original Oblivion and Oblivion Remastered.

Latest progress from Skyblivion’s sixth development update
Referred to as the penultimate Skyblivion development diary, the team behind the mod shared a few redesigned Cyrodiilic locations. This includes compelling sneak peeks of the Gold Coast, the city of Anvil, Kvatch, the Deadlands, and even the abandoned city of Sutch, which was removed from the official Oblivion before its release.

Additionally, Skyblivion also redesigned all of the vanilla game’s weapons and armor, giving them a new look and even unique attacks to make them feel more special or one of a kind. All wearable gear will be visually compatible for all races in Tamriel, especially for Khajiits and Argonians.
Skyblivion release date and other requirements
The schedule for Skyblivion’s release remains unannounced, but it’s expected to become downloadable to the public before the end of 2025.
While Skyblivion is classified as a Skyrim mod, it won’t be available on the game’s Creation Club. Instead, players can enjoy it by using a free custom installer and owning two games: the Skyrim Special Edition and Oblivion GOTY Deluxe.
Bethesda itself is aware of and has supported the Skyblivion project in the past, even giving the entire team free codes for Oblivion Remastered during its early launch. The Skyblivion team also mentioned on their official website that they will take community feedback on Oblivion Remastered into account as they continue to polish and improve their work.
