Sodium at the Red Bull Tetris USA National Final

Throughout the evening of the Red Bull Tetris USA National Final in Hollywood, FL, the crowd chanted Sodium's name as he steadily climbed his way to the top. He not only fought through the top 32 bracket, but also duked it out in a tough top 8 featuring tough Tetris esports competitors such as Amy H., Andrew Vu, Gladdon, BeastinShen, Amberdoodle, and Promooooo. When Sodium faced Coldless in the grand final, the cheers did not stop, either.

Typically in esports tournaments, players wear headphones and can’t hear the crowd. However, esports.gg noticed that Sodium fully embraced the crowd's energy. According to him, this energy helped him play better throughout the competition.

"I was definitely gonna wear AirPods, but the crowd was cheering my name so much," Sodium said. "I was like, 'Oh, maybe I should take them out and hear the support.' And it definitely helped me play better."

He also shared some words to supporters and friends. "Thank you, everybody. I had no idea I was gonna get this much support. I thought it might have lost in the group stages or something. But you know, this is definitely an amazing experience. I probably won't ever get to this level of clout ever again, but I'll enjoy it while I have it."

Sodium and his Tetris esports journey

When we asked about Sodium's journey to the National Final, he shared that he first heard about Red Bull Tetris while playing in the Classic Tetris World Championship. It was actually an advertisement that caught his interest, and he started playing that same evening.

"So I was playing in the Classic Tetris World Championship hosted by Vince over there," Sodium said, referring to Vince Clemente. "And while I was playing a match, I heard an advertisement for it. And it really piqued my interest, so I started playing it -- literally later that evening. And I climbed the ranks pretty high. I was gonna try to gatekeep it. I was like, 'Oh, it's just me, just me.' But everyone ended up finding out," he laughed. "So it end up being a pretty tough competition."

Sodium then added how Red Bull's version of Tetris is in a very different format. Still, a strategy like clearing single lines remains the same, and his experience with modern Tetris made it easy to get the hang of everything.

In terms of what's next for him, Sodium revealed that he's planning to play a bunch of classic Tetris competitions and that he's preparing for the World Championship.
