The brand-new shooter game, Concord, is officially being taken offline.

It's always a sad day when an anticipated video game ends up failing. After being released only two weeks ago, Sony's latest title, Concord, is being taken off the shelves as its sales and player numbers ended up being horrendously low.

Concord to go offline on September 6, 2024

The popular (or not so) game has been in development for eight years now, making it highly anticipated by many players. Well, it seems as if that anticipation was short-lived. Due to various microtransactions and more, Concord ended up being a complete bust.

"However, while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended," said Sony in a recent blog post. "Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players."

The company then announced the plan to reimburse those who purchased the game on its release, in hopes that it would be another hit.

"While we determine the best path ahead, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC. If you purchased the game for PlayStation 5 from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, a refund will be issued back to your original payment method."

The company then said that those who purchased from digital storefronts, such as Epic and Steam, will also be refunded.

Is this the biggest failure in video game history?

It would most certainly seem that Concord's two-week lifespan is one of the biggest failures in video game history. Sure, many games out there have had a weak player base upon release, but incredibly few are pulled from stores that fast.

Surely, the team at Sony could have come up with a better strategy upon releasing Concord, maybe actually giving the game a little bit of life.

Hopefully, we see nothing of the sort happen with any future games this year or next.
