The Last of Us voice actress Annie Wersching continued to act even after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2020. She wanted to live her life on her terms.
The actress behind the voice of Tess in The Last of Us, Annie Wersching, has passed away.
Annie Wersching passed away from cancer on January 29, 2023. She was only 45. Wersching provided the voice and motion capture for Tess, one of the most memorable female video game protagonists of all time. She has also in 24 and other popular television shows.
Even after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, the passionate actress continued to work. She had big roles in Star Trek: Picard and The Rookie.
The news of her passing has hit the video game community hard. Many sent support to the family and discussed how important Tess was to their video game journey. Others brought up their positive memories of Wersching, including meeting her at The Last Of Us meet-and-greets and seeing her recent interviews.
Wersching's husband, actor Stephen Full, issued a statement about his wife's passing: "There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall."
Wersching was survived by her husband and children, Freddie (12), Ozzie (9), and Archie (4). They have set up a Go Fund Me so Full can spend time with his children during this difficult time without worrying about funeral expenses and medical bills. The Go Fund Me also states that the money will go towards the childrens' college funds and gifts for upcoming birthdays.
"Annie's a private person by nature, and the diagnosis made her even more so. She wanted to protect her boys. She wanted to get better so she could continue working. And honestly, she just didn't really want to talk about it. She wanted to live her life, on her terms, and be with her family," the Go Fund Me read.
Annie Wersching will be missed in the video game community and beyond, but her legacy will live in as more and more gamers share their memories of The Last Of Us.
