Wild Circuit Asia Open 2022: Everything you need to know

The multi-region off-season tournament features open qualifiers with $70,000 on the line.

Riot has unveiled a new tournament in its Wild Circuit, which is the official offseason for League of Legends: Wild Rift. Titled the Wild Circuit Asia Open 2022, the tournament will feature open-for-all qualifiers across Southeast Asia, Korea and Japan.

Besides featuring open qualifiers, some tier one teams will receive a direct invite into the Wild Circuit Asia Open. They will fight for the title and a share of the $70,000 prize pool. Here is everything you need to know about the tournament.

What is the format for the Wild Circuit Asia Open 2022?

As many as 14 teams from the three regions will compete in the competition. The slots distribution and the invited teams are as follows:

  • SEA (Seven teams)
    • RRQ
    • Six teams from the SEA open qualifier
  • Korea (Five teams)
    • Rolster Y
    • Kwandong Freecs
    • Liiv SANDBOX
    • Two teams from the KR open qualifier
  • Japan (Two teams)
    • Two teams from the Japan open qualifier

The tournament will feature a four-week league stage where the 14 teams will battle it out in a single round-robin best-of-three format. This means that each team will face every other team once.

The top four teams from the playoffs will advance to the playoffs. This will be played in a single-elimination bracket to crown the champion of the Wild Circuit Asia Open 2022. The playoffs will feature best-of-five series.

Here is the schedule for the tournament

  • Registrations: Oct. 5 to 16
  • Open Qualifiers
    • SEA: Oct 20 to 30
    • Korea: Oct. 20 to 23
    • Japan: Oct. 27 to 30
  • League Stage
    • It will happen over four weeks.
    • It will take place every Wednesday to Sunday between Nob. 2 to 27
  • Playoffs
    • Semifinals: Dec. 3
    • Finals and third-place match: Dec. 4 (Sunday)

Wild Circuit Asia Cup prize pool distribution

The prize pool for the Wild Circuit Asia Cup 2022 stands at $70,000. The distribution for it is a bit unique as teams will gain money based on their results in the league stage.

For the league stage, each team will receive $1,500 as the base prize money. If they win 2-0, they will get $400. If they win 2-1, however, they will receive only $250. The team that loses 0-2 will not get anything while the team that loses 2-1 will get $150.

For the playoffs, on the other hand, the prize money will be distributed as follows:

  • Champion: $6,600
  • Second place: $3,000
  • Third place: $2,000
  • Fourth place: $1,000

Where to watch the tournament?

The Asia Open will be broadcasted on all Riot official channels but there’s a catch – these won’t contain any casting or commentary. Instead, Riot is inviting co-streamers and influencers globally to co-stream the tournament.

How to register for the Wild Circuit Asia Open 2022?

Registrations for the tournament are currently live for all three regions. Players can sign-up by following the Google Form here.

Each team can have up to seven players (two substitutes) who must be at least 16 years old and above Diamond rank in Wild Rift. At least three players of each team must be residents of the region they are registering from.
