T1 demolish G2 in a match for the 3rd place at LoL Esports World Cup 2025

Seeing G2 battling for third place at the League of Legends EWC 2025 event feels quite alright. The European team has been performing decently at this international event. As for T1, such a result is rather disturbing — fans hoped for this win, at least.

Compared to their performance at the Mid-Season Invitational 2025 (MSI 2025), G2 progressed tremendously. Back then, they could not make it from the initial Play-In stage. At the League of Legends (LoL) Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC 2025), G2 advanced from the groups with no losses and even defeated BLG in the quarterfinals.

Their match against Gen.G did not bring the result G2 hoped for. Still, fans can be pretty happy with how the European players stood against the MSI 2025 winners and the best roster in the Korean LoL Championship.

T1 brings a totally different story to this match. The World Champions 2024 continue their tradition of weirdly shaky play. They started this EWC journey with a match against KOI, and the EU team made T1 bleed in one of the games. It’s totally not a performance you would expect from such titans.

Moreover, T1 lost their LoL EWC semifinal — against Anyone’s Legend. That team is a newcomer to the big international competition. Defeating T1 with a 2-0 is certainly an achievement.

Such a premise makes the match between G2 and T1 especially interesting. Can G2’s progress be enough to crush Faker and the squad? Can T1 recover from their previous, rather disastrous play?

G2 vs T1: A clash of Western and Eastern League of Legends

The interregional competition is very one-sided in League of Legends esports. Korean and Eastern teams in general dominate over European and Western ones. Still, this specific Esports World Cup gives us strong hope for changes. Western teams look really decent in the matches versus Eastern powerhouses: even if they don’t win in the end.

G2 players had a chance to take another step in this direction. For T1, their honor was at stake in the LoL EWC third-place match.

Match recap

Hopes and dreams of EU League of Legends fans were demolished pretty quickly. Sure, G2 had some great fights in the mid-period of Game 1. But the advantage of T1 was too big, so they just recovered and delivered deadly hits. In the final game, G2 moments were smaller: only punishing Doran for overstepping.

The end showed the real power of T1. Faker was so unkillable that he freely rushed into fights against a few opponents and still won them.

T1 proved their class and claimed third place in the LoL EWC 2025 event. Fans can be happy about this performance, but in general — there is a bitter feeling after that semifinal versus Anyone’s Legend.

G2 lost, and they are fourth in the League of Legends Esports World Cup 2025 event. Still, it’s a pretty decent result for them, as losing to T1 is not the end of the world. G2 Esports demonstrated great potential for further growth!

Game 1

T1 stated their ambitions in this game pretty early: with a solo kill by Faker on Caps. G2 managed to secure the first Dragon after that, but they were losing occasional fights across the map.

The mid-game brought some hope for the European team. T1 secured Atakhan and decided to initiate a fight. G2 won it and killed three T1 players — Oner had to take a ride on Rift Herald to save himself.

T1 did not wait for too long to prove they still had an advantage. They went for very good team fights, including one in G2’s jungle. T1 took the Baron buff, earned an Ace, and won Game 1 against G2 in the LoL EWC 2025 match for third place.

Game 2

For a while, this game was relatively tight. G2 even had some good moments, like killing Doran when he overstepped near the first Dragon or in G2’s jungle. Still, the battle started looking more T1-sided pretty quickly. Fights were happening across the map, and T1 came out of them with more kills.

A fight around Atakhan left no doubt that T1 are going to smash their opponents. They grew extreme power, and even facing many opponents alone did not mean dying. Faker demonstrated miracles of skill by escaping an ambush from three G2 players. Eventually, T1 were unstoppable and did whatever they wanted on Summoner’s Rift.

After another great fight, T1 killed Baron and destroyed Nexus.
