This match determined the final winners in the quarterfinals for League of Legends at EWC 2025. Gen.G had a tough one against FlyQuest.

The tournament format of the League of Legends (LoL) Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC 2025) event is extremely intense. We witnessed a long series of group stage matches on the opening day, and fights for the final playoff spots happened right before the quarterfinals.

For FlyQuest, the situation could be even more harsh. The initial plan for them was to win the elimination battle against FURIA and then face the Mid-Season Invitational 2025 (MSI 2025) champions with almost no gap. To avoid this, the tournament organizers adjusted the schedule and moved the GEN vs FLY match to July 18.

The LoL EWC quarterfinals are tough on their own. There are no lower brackets, so the losers are just out. The intensity for players creates a wonderful esports show for the viewers! Everything about the first playoff match at the League of Legends EWC 2025 is here.

Match recap

Two games of this match were filled with chaotic fights that brought ups and downs for FlyQuest and Gen.G. The scenario was relatively the same. Gen.G got a small early advantage, but thanks to heroic efforts, FlyQuest almost caught up to their opponents. The mid-game created real hope for the FlyQuest fans, but then Gen.G unleashed their merciless power to capitalize on a mistake from FlyQuest. Eventually, Gen.G smashed FlyQuest twice, with a somewhat unsettling might.

FlyQuest played well, but Gen.G played better!

Game 1

This game was a rollercoaster for both teams. Gen.G started with a great early advantage and domination across the map. However, that gave them a false feeling of security on their opponents’ territory. With a few bitter mistakes from Gen.G’s side, FlyQuest suddenly compensated for the gap, took Atakhan, stole a Dragon, and started delivering impressive kills.

One massive fight reflected the mid-game between Gen.G and FlyQuest in this LoL EWC quarterfinal. Only one player from both teams remained alive after it, and it was FlyQuest's Quad.

That did not go without mistakes from FlyQuest, though. Gen.G took down Rumble of Bwipo and went for Baron. FlyQuest tried to fight after that — not only did they lose that battle, but they also fell into the disadvantage abyss with no return.

Game 2

Once again, the battle was absolutely ruthless from both sides. Thanks to early pressure, Gen.G started earning some advantages, but FlyQuest responded with active offense. Fights happened all over the map, and it felt like FlyQuest became somehow stronger.

FlyQuest secured Atakhan, but Gen.G did not plan to give up. Their strike turned out to be deadly.

Gen.G initiated a Dragon fight, and FlyQuest decided to contest — to find many of them dead. It was the point for Gen.G to snowball their advantage with Baron and another Dragon. FlyQuest just could do anything but see their Nexus fall to pieces.

Gen.G, the favorites of LoL EWC 2025

There is no need to beat around the bush. Gen.G are certainly the favorites in their quarterfinals. The Korean League of Legends scene is a mighty beast compared to the Western competition.

Moreover, Gen.G are the strong favorites of the entire LoL EWC 2025. The team finished the regional split with no losses at all. Gen.G won MSI 2025. too. They are at their peak performance!

Unless something really unexpected happens, we should see Gen.G reaching the grand final and having another match against T1. The League of Legends betting sites confirm this prediction with their odds. Esports is full of surprises: BLG and HLE are among the teams that can make it to the top as well.

The LoL EWC 2025 continues until July 20. The third-place match and the grand final complete the tournament.
