Rogue is back for 2024.
Esports team Rogue will return in 2024, following a split from Spanish esports organisation KOI. In a post on the KOI English X account, which will return back to Rogue branding, ReKtGlobal announced it "reclaims its brand identity under Rogue".
Rogue and KOI entered into a strategic partnership back in October 2022, in order to compete in the LEC.
Despite Rogue winning the LEC Championship in 2022, KOI underperformed in 2023. In a season mired by reported financial issues, they finished 7th in Championship points and did not qualify for Worlds 2023.
LEC spot will transfer over
In their statement on X, formerly Twitter, Rogue directly referenced their strong fanbase. The decision to abandon the Rogue branding, following their Championship win, was controversial.
The brand carried, and still carries, significant weight and influence. In an age where esports is struggling, this will be an important factor in the success of the revival.
Rogue will be able to get straight back into the LEC, where their branding is strongest. This follows the split between KOI and Rogue owners Infinite Reality earlier in November. Infinite Reality have kept ownership of their franchises in the LEC and Call of Duty League. In addition they will retain their Rocket League and Rainbow Six divisions.
It is not clear if all of these esports teams will now compete under the Rogue name. More information is set to come out in the coming weeks.
Rogue will hope to return to former glories in the LEC
After this rebranding, Rogue will aim to rediscover their winning ways in the LEC. They took second place in the Spring LEC, and won the Summer LEC in 2022. The organisation then went on to finish in the top 8 at the subsequent Worlds. This followed up on a similarly successful 2021.
They will not be able to totally get the band back together. Of the five players that represented Rogue at Worlds 2022, just two remain on the ex-KOI roster.
With a spot secured and strong heritage in League of Legends, Rogue should have no problems attracting the talent it needs to compete for LEC titles once more.
