“You will find out in time.”

Sektor is the next Mortal Kombat 1 character to be revealed. NetherRealm Studios (NRS) has confirmed that the Sektor Khaos Reigns gameplay trailer will arrive on September 4, 2024. The trailer will presumably provide an in-depth look at the character's moves and backstory. However, before the gameplay reveal, NRS and Ed Boon provided various sneak peeks at what fans could expect. Here is everything we know about Sektor in Mortal Kombat 1.

Sektor is a woman for the first time, but is still evil

Perhaps the most controversial decision of the Khaos Reigns DLC was NetherRealm's decision to make Cyrax and Sektor female instead of male. Since Mortal Kombat 3, these two staple characters were human males converted into cyber ninjas via Lin Kuei's Cyber Initiative. While the fan backlash has been notable, the decision remains regardless.

Based on what we've seen in the Cyrax trailer and Sektor teasers, the latter cannot shed their evil persona, regardless of the timeline. Sektor recruited Cyrax into the Lin Kuei and granted her the armor seen in the trailer. However, while Sektor is wholly entrenched in the way of the Lin Kuei, Cyrax is morally righteous.

Sektor is Madam Bo's daughter in Mortal Kombat 1

A recent teaser by Ed Boon provided insight into Sektor's backstory, revealing her to be Madam Bo's daughter. For those who don't know, Madam Bo is a minor character who appeared in the Mortal Kombat 1 story mode as a guiding presence for the Earthrealm warriors. She also has ties to the Lin Kuei, but one seemingly throwaway line by Madam Bo laid the groundwork for this revelation.

In Chapter 1, she refers to Raiden and Kung Lao as "The sons I've never had." It's unclear how this will factor into the story, but it's safe to say an encounter between Sektor and Madam Bo is inevitable in Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns.

"The armor is just the first step."

Another point of contention amongst fans was NRS's decision to make Sektor and Cyrax's armor a wearable suit, similar to Iron Man. In previous timelines, Sektor and Cyrax could not willingly remove their armor and were trapped within the cybernetic suits instead. Another teaser posted by Ed Boon depicted a pre-fight interaction between the two characters, where Cyrax theorizes that the armor is "just the first step," to which Sektor replies, "You will find out in time."

Based on this exchange, it's safe to assume the Cyber Initiative is still the end goal. Perhaps the armor seen in Mortal Kombat 1 is a prototype that would eventually lead to cyberization.

What about Sektor's moves in Mortal Kombat 1?

Sektor's Mortal Kombat 1 move set looks quick and flashy, similar to her yellow counterpart. Her special attacks center around the suit. A cannon could be spotted alongside rocket-based attacks, a flamethrower, and a retractable shield in the teasers. Overall, Sektor looks agile in Mortal Kombat 1, which should make for a unique gameplay experience.

We will find out more details when the Sektor Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay trailer arrives on September 4, 2024.
