Toronto Defiant Community Cup for Pride

Between June 24 and June 25, the Toronto Defiant Community Cup for Pride tournament featured Overwatch 2 teams duking it out for $1,000 CAD to a LGBTQIA+ charity of choice, some in-game currency, and more. The tournament involved a single elimination format and a total of five rounds. While the first to fourth rounds involved best-of-three games, the grand final was a best-of-five match.

Bonzi Buddies players went 2-0 in the first round against The Waccos. This win streak continued in rounds two and the quarterfinal against Less Than Three and Hivemind respectively. When it came down to the semifinal, Bonzi Buddies went 2-1 against 8D.

Throughout the tournament, NY Kittens also accomplished win streak after win streak. The team bested The Palmgranates, Zero Expectations, Gordon Ramsay Esports, and Silly Squad 2-0! However, the win streak ended in the grand final. Bonzi Buddies swept the team 3-0 and took home the Toronto Defiant Community Cup for Pride gold.

As the winners, Bonzi Buddies players donated to The Trevor Project, whose mission is to save the lives of young members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Overwatch 2 community and Pride Month

During the tournament, Overwatch 2 teams showed their solidarity for trans rights in the form of player icons and name cards. Released at the start of Pride Month, these in-game cosmetics are available for everyone.

JAGCasts and Cassi "CeeBee" Brown casted the semifinal and final. Over on Twitter, CeeBee also noted that she'll return to casting for the Overwatch World Cup 2023 next week.
