Players have one chance in 2024 to run their placement matches.
Overwatch 2 has updated its competitive system! The new system is now more accurate as of Season 9. Here's everything to know about the new Overwatch 2 competitive system and placement matches.
Overwatch 2 competitive system explained
You can now see your updated rank after every match in competitive Overwatch 2. The progress bar shows how much you've gained or lost between each skill division. Modifiers are also displayed below the progression bar.
"Some modifiers help provide transparency in the matchmaking for each match, like getting a boost when you defeat a team that was more favored to win," Blizzard explained. "While other modifiers show if your rank is calibrating, like going on a huge win streak, proving you belong in a higher rank."
Overwatch 2 placement matches
In addition to the new rank progression changes, competitive players can now do placement matches alongside the skill rank reset. This means you must begin your climb to the top by doing 10 all-new Overwatch 2 placement matches. This will determine your starting rank, and you'll have only one chance to do this in 2024.
"As you progress through placement matches, there will be a predicted starting rank after each match. You’ll only have one chance this year to run your Placement Matches, so pick your best heroes and stay hydrated because these games count for a lot," Blizzard stated.
