Overwatch 2 Season 9 gets jade weapons

According to Overwatch 2 senior systems designer Gavin Winter during BlizzCon 2023, emerald weapons — now known as jade weapons — will arrive in Season 9. The BlizzCon 2023 presentation also featured some unfinalized artwork for these weapons.

Winter added that the Overwatch 2 team wants to give players the chance to earn a new rank as well, which will happen through the redistribution of players at every rank.

"As part of this redistribution, we're also adding a new rank above Grandmaster called Ultimate," Winter said. "We wanna give out competitive rewards every year, too. So in Season 9, we'll be adding emerald weapons."

A competitive rework will also arrive in Overwatch 2 Season 9, according to Blizzard. This Overwatch 2 competitive rework will remove the requirement of getting five wins or 15 loses. Additionally, this new competitive system will update a player's rank after each match. This will be in the form of a progress bar.

"When we launch Season 9, we'll also be resetting ranks and bringing placements back to Overwatch 2," Winter said during BlizzCon 2023. "So this isn't a full MMR reset, but it will give you a chance to make a big change to your rank because your placement games will account for a lot more. We wanna do that every year along with some big changes to our systems and hero balance."

In terms of other Overwatch 2 updates for Season 9, they will include the ability to endorse friends, the Junkertown rework, a slew of new skins, and more! Therefore, be sure to stick around on esports.gg for more news and updates!
