The legendary Overwatch 2 tank player Fearless from Zeta Division has announced his retirement, with Heesung stepping up to take his place.

Zeta Division has been a top-performing Overwatch 2 team with quite the reputation. It first had a lot to prove with their new Overwatch 2 squad. However, the team of the former For The Gamer squad and a new captain in Lee "Fearless" Eui-Seok, Zeta Division soared to new heights. However, Fearless recently announced his retirement from Overwatch 2, and so the team needed to find someone to fill the massive shoes that he left. But all hope was not lost as seemingly out of nowhere, Lee "Heesung" Hee-sung arrived to save Zeta Division.

The legacy of Fearless

Fearless is one of the many legends to come out of Korea. Fearless had quite a rocky start with the Shanghai Dragons back in Season 1 of the Overwatch competitive season. The team ended with a 0-40 record, giving them the nicknames of the worst players in the league. But Fearless persisted, even after he got demoted to the academy team and being considered one of the worst tank players in the league.

The following year, he climbed his way back to the Shanghai Dragons for Season 3 of the Overwatch League (OWL). When it was time for the May Melee tournament, the expectations for Fearless were subpar, to say the least. But Fearless defied expectations. He and the Shanghai Dragons reverse swept Seoul Dynasty 4-3 and Fearless took home the Player of the Match award. Not to mention that the team finished the league with a 27-2 record. Fearless went from an almost-forgotten player to one of the most respected tank players in the game. It was a true anime comeback arc.

Fearless then signed to the Dallas Fuel for Seasons 4 and 5. However, Fearless' heroes weren't doing well in the meta of the time. This meant that the new and upcoming Choi "Hanbin" Han-been was the favored tank player for the Dallas Fuel. Regardless, the Fuel placed first in the regular season and won the Grand Finals.

After the end of the OWL, he could not secure a team for the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) and decided to retire. However, Fearless came out of retirement when Zeta Division announced their roster for the Esports World Cup (EWC). There, the team placed in the Top 4. Unfortunately, Fearless' contract expired after EWC and he retired to enlist in the military.

A new hero for Zeta Division: Heesung

In the meantime, a newer player, Heesung, joined Zeta Division. Heesung has only been in the professional Overwatch 2 scene for two years. Despite his career starting recently, he's been on some notable squads including the T1 Rookies and Xero Overwatch 2 teams.

Heesung's tank pool is quite different compared to Fearless' one. Heesung tends to favor Sigma, D.va and Zarya compared to the more dive-favored heroes. For a team like Zeta Division, this could have a lot of potential. Plus, Heesung is a young player who has his entire Overwatch 2 career ahead of him. With the guidance of the rest of Zeta Division and their coaches, Heesung has some incredible potential as a player, which is probably why the team picked up the relatively unknown player. Or it could be his alternate nickname is Goblin — and who doesn't love goblins?

Regardless, it'll be exciting to see how Heesung melds into Zeta Division and how his career will continue to grow. With Zeta Division playing in the upcoming OWCS Korea Group Stage, we'll get to see the new squad in action.
