Finally, a confirmed release date for the next Pokémon game.
After an initial announcement over a year ago, Nintendo have now finally confirmed the official release date for Pokémon Legends Z-A. The game is one of the most anticipated titles for the upcoming Switch 2 console. The game will be avaliable on that console, and the original Switch when it releases.
Here's everything you need to know about when you can get your hands on the latest addition to the Pokémon line-up.
When is the Pokémon Legends Z-A release date?
Pokémon Legends Z-A releases on October 16, 2025. It will release simultaneously on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
The Switch 2 version will have improved graphics and better performance when compared to the Switch version - but the game itself will be the same and contain the same content.

What is the game bringing?
The game itself is set in Luminose City, and features all new catching and battling mechanics. In addition, instead of regional variants the game is re-introducing the Mega Evolution mechanic. There will be the return of previously existing Mega Evolutions, as well as some brand new ones.
Leaks suggest that there will be over 20 new Mega forms, with information hopefully coming before the Pokémon Legends Z-A release date rolls around.
The Legends Z-A starters will be Chikorita, Tepig and Totodile. This makes these very likely candidates to receive new mega evolutions. Another Pokémon that is widely tipped to get a mega form is Zygarde. As the name suggests, the game could very well focus around Zygarde, being the Z. X and Y focused on Xerneas and Yeveltal. They are both also projected to get new Mega Evolutions.
