It has been 30 years since Red and Blue first took on the Kanto region, which then followed with various other games, cards, shows, movies and more. And to celebrate, Pokémon is hosting a large 30th anniversary celebration at the start of 2026.

So, what is in store for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary celebration? And when will it be held?

Pokémon’s 30th anniversary to begin in February 2026

In less than a month, we will get quite a bit of information on what the next year will hold for the Pokémon franchise, regarding games, cards and more. This time of year is always incredibly exciting, but this year is looking a bit sweeter due to it being the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

That’s 30 years of one of the best video game series, anime series, TCG sets, movie series and more.

There are quite a few rumors as to what the Pokémon 30th anniversary will announce, including new video game remakes and possibly a new generation, but there are a few things we know will be taking place in 2026 for the celebration.

We know the franchise is doing a 30th anniversary collaboration with McDonald's, something they did back on the 25th, where specific cards were released through Happy Meals. However, the TCG series will also be doing some big things in 2026, including a Celebrations Collection, which will be similar to the 25th anniversary set, which had quite a few of the original base set card designs in it.

We also know that Pokémon: Pokopia will be releasing for the Switch 2 in March of 2026, which is a sandbox-style Pokémon game, something the franchise has never done before.

So, when is the Pokémon 30th anniversary celebration?

Date

The date for the 30th anniversary celebration for the Pokémon franchise is February 27, 2026. February 27 is marked as Pokémon Day in general, since that was the first day the franchise ever released anything.
