The powerful message was delivered during the Year 10 Season 4 reveal. The community is still skeptical.

Rainbow Six Siege X is plagued with cheaters. Players report facing them really often in the high ranks, especially above Emerald. The situation got significantly worse after R6 went to the free-to-play model, as cheaters usually don’t like to pay for their games.

At the esports tournament Munich Major 2025, the developer team of R6 Siege X took the spotlight to reveal the upcoming Season 4 of the game’s Year 10. Alongside the pretty much usual talks about ShieldGuard improvements, the game director addressed the issues from the big stage.

If someone did that in the voice chat, they would certainly get a short ban.

“I’m not usually the guy who gets to talk about the cheaters, because seriously, f**k ‘em. I can’t stand cheaters, and I know you can’t stand them either. Cheating has no place in this game, and honestly, it has no place in any game.”

Free-to-play and cheaters in R6 Siege X

The original game cost money, and it was a small but still substantial obstacle for cheaters. A certain level of dedication was needed to ruin people’s experience specifically in Rainbow Six Siege, when there were totally free shooters for this.

In June 2025, Ubisoft changed the monetization model and made the revamped version, Rainbow Six Siege X, free to play. Well, you probably know what happened next.

With the wave of new players exploring the deep excitement of the R6 shooting matches, the game got extra attention from various cheaters.

You certainly can distinguish an experienced opponent and a cheater. The first one knows the best positionings and overplays you in the skills department. The second plays as a fool, shoots chaotically, and still earns headshots one after another.

The developers admitted that their detection and prevention system does not keep pace with cheat makers.

“This season, we take responsibility and continue to invest in stronger versions to protect fairness and security in Siege.”

Adrian Fraisse, R6 ShieldGuard Lead

The practical plan for this promise is to deliver security updates twice per week “to constantly disrupt cheat makers.”

During the Y10S4 reveal panel, Adrian Fraisse also announced work on Recoil Script Detection. The developers are going to work closely with pro players to learn how to detect recoil scripts better.

Actions speak louder than words!

While the R6 community greeted the bold message to cheaters positively, most people are very sceptical about the practical actions.

There were quite a few beautiful promises in the past, including the reveal panel for Siege X and the introductions of earlier seasons in Year 10. The problem with cheaters does not disappear.

Right before the R6 Munich Major 2025, some prominent pro players published a document titled “Save Siege”. They listed their suggestions for improving the game, and anti-cheat measures were placed in the first section.

Applying no proper punishment and having no adequate resources to review cheat reports are among the biggest complaints of Siege players.

While greeting new promises, the R6 community wants to see them being converted into real actions.
