Ubisoft rolls back some unintended crossplay settings in what should be a dramatic improvement in matchmaking experience.

The Rainbow Six Siege Y9S4 update introduced crossplay that allowed friends to play with each other even if they were not on the same platform. However, an unintentional bug has caused some problems for players. In their latest update, Ubisoft has implemented some changes to fix this issue and improve the matchmaking experience for all players.

Ubisoft rolls back some cross-play changes

PC players, we want to inform you that it was unintentional for the crossplay feature to be toggled ON by default on consoles. This resulted in more console players than intended in PC pools.

This bug has been fixed and will be released with the Y9S4.1 patch on December 12th which should also result in better matchmaking for console. Until then console players can manually disable this option in the Crossplay settings. Friends can now successfully play together across platforms and we will continue to improve upon this feature.

Ubisoft introduced crossplay in the Y9S4 update brought about significant changes and an opportunity for players to enjoy Siege with their friends. Regardless of whether they would play the game on PC or console, players could enjoy the game with their friends.

However, the default setting for crossplay was set to on, which meant that many PC players would end up playing the game with players from the console. There is a visible difference in the performance levels of players across different platforms. Ubisoft has now commented on the same and said the default setting is now set to OFF. This would allow players more control on their gameplay experience and whether they want to play with players from PC or on the console.

The Y9S4.1 update will release on December 12th and the changes will go live. The update includes matchmaking improvements with two new features - Phantom Player and match rebalancing. Phantom player aims to balance the skill level between the two teams. If one team has a group of players, then the matchmaking system will assume an extra player - a Phantom player - on the opposite team. This ensures that the matchmaking skill between the two teams remains on the same playing level.
