BDS M0nkey M00n hospitalized after a serious car accident

There is no certainty just yet whether or not he’ll be fit to play this upcoming weekend.

Team BDS' star player, Evan "M0nkey M00n" Rogez, reveals his hospitalization following a "serious car accident" on Saturday morning. With only a single Tweet to go off of, fans were left wondering about his condition.

The 2021-2022 RLCS World Champion is highly regarded and well-liked by the community, both on and off the pitch. Understandably, fans are worried that M0nkeyM00n may not be able to participate in the upcoming RLCS Major qualifier.

With competition kicking off for Europe on Apr. 26, a serious injury likely means he'll have to sit this qualifier out.

Fortunately, good news soon followed just under 12 hours later. Replying to his original Tweet, M0nkey M00n informed the community that he was relatively unharmed. He shares that his car, an Audi A5 now missing its front end, took most of the damage.

He then thanks everyone for their support and indicates that he'll soon be back on the field. Additionally, he includes an image of himself giving a thumbs up, showing a hand and forearm mostly encased in a sort of soft cast or wrap.

Who will replace M0nkey M00n next weekend?

Unfortunately, M0nkey M00n's Tweets don't provide too many details about the situation. Specifically, there is no certainty as to whether or not he'll be fit to play this upcoming weekend.

This wouldn't be the first time an RLCS player pushes through an injury to start for their team, but that doesn't make it a wise decision. Luckily, there are two world-class players available to fill in if the need arises.

Option #1: Alexandre "Extra" Paoli

The first, and most favorable option, is former Team BDS starter and fellow 2021-2022 RLCS World Champion, Extra.

Many fans consider Extra more than capable of starting on any top RLCS roster. However, due to complications with his contract, he's been stuck as Team BDS' substitute for nearly an entire year. He'd easily be the top choice to replace M0nkey M00n in a pinch... if not for one complication.

For some reason, Extra is not registered on the Team BDS roster for the upcoming RLCS London Major qualifier. There is no recent news suggesting his departure, and he is still included on the team's roster by multiple other sources, such as Liquipedia.

The deadline for registering and changing rosters for the qualifier has already passed. Barring a special exemption from Psyonix, it is possible that Team BDS' hands are tied.

Thus, this tiny oversight, or perhaps an unannounced roster change, may impede Extra from substituting in for M0nkey M00n. Fans would be greatly disappointed, with many wishing for him to get any opportunities to show his mettle and quality as a player.

Option #2: Andy "Kassio" Landais

The second, and now likely option to play for BDS in place of M0nkey M00n, is team coach Kassio. He's now retired as a player, but it's worth noting that Kassio is no slouch. He was starting for Quadrant in the RLCS no more than 11 months ago.

Thankfully, Team BDS has two solid options as a backup to their injured star. Of course, the RLCS community will continue to wish M0nkey M00n a speedy recovery, and we hope to see him return to the pitch in good health as soon as possible.
