Popular Twitch streamer and YouTuber, Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, announced yesterday that he has been diagnosed with melanoma, a type of skin cancer. While news such as this comes with sorrow, the streamer took to Twitter to provide positive insight into his diagnosis.
Luckily, it looks as if doctors may have discovered the cancer in the very early stages, making it much more treatable.
Ninja discusses cancer diagnoses via Twitter
Deciding not to leave his fans in the dark, Ninja took to Twitter to announce the diagnosis, which shocked quite a few people. The popular streamer is only 32 years old, an extremely young age to be diagnosed with skin cancer.
Yet, there is a silver lining.
"Alright, I’m still in a bit of shock but want to keep you all updated," said Ninja on Twitch. "A few weeks ago I went to a dermatologist for an annual skin/mole check that Jess proactively scheduled for me."
This was when the doctor officially noticed a mole on Ninja's foot.
"There was a mole on the bottom of my foot that they wanted to remove just to be careful. It came back as melanoma, but they are optimistic that we caught it in the early stages."
Currently, the mole is in the biopsy stages, as it is being looked at by a team of professionals. The hope is that removing the mole and the edges around it will completely rid Ninja of the cancer, preventing it from spreading anywhere else.
He did have one more message for everyone, though: "I’m grateful to have hope in finding this early, but please take this as a PSA to get skin checkups."
His situation just goes to show how fast something terrible like cancer can creep on you. Always notify a doctor if you notice any abnormal moles on your skin.
