TFT 8.5 is nearly here, and here’s what we know so far – carousels will be changing, new augments to champions, new champions and PBE early access.

TFT fans, you’ll want to mark March 22 in your calendars, as TFT is about to get even better! The arrival of Set 8.5 includes Glitched Out Carousels and new hero augments.

What is coming to Set 8.5?

One of the biggest changes coming to Set 8.5 is the inclusion of Glitched Out Carousels. This comes as part of the mid-set mechanic changes and will impact the differences between games and allow you to try out new ideas. Fundamentally, Glitched Out Carousels enable you to make increased changes and different options to your game no matter what your economy is looking like.

Additionally, Glitched Out Carousels will bring a level of chaos to the game that we can’t wait to see.

There will also be the introduction of 14 new champions into the game, as well as 28 new augments to champions. This includes Neeko’s Starlight Resonance which when equipped gives her the ultimate amount of ability power. A new augmentation also includes Lucian’s Hyperbolic Time Chamber, wherein every two times he casts he will generate additional experience.

What are the Glitched Out Carousels?

Glitched Out Carousels are part of TFT’s interdimensional theme for the mid-set update of Set 8.5. Glitched Out Carousels will appear in your games at stage two but can appear anywhere between stages three to six as well. But this means you typically will not get more than two Glitched Out Carousels overall – or if you’re lucky, you may end up with three. As such, the later into your game that the Carousel appears the bigger its ‘glitches’ and impact on your game will be.

When the Carousel appears you can expect it to be carrying bonus defensive and offensive mechanisms for the game. This can also include Loaded Dice and Golden Eggs. The higher up the stage you are playing the higher the chance of receiving Loaded Dice, Golden Eggs, and even Ornn items such as Anvils (stage four and five). Champion duplicates can also appear at the higher levels (stage five and six).

With the addition of Glitched Out Carousels there is a decreased risk in the annoying moment of two-starring attack damage early on – win win for all of us. Don’t be surprised when Carousels appear in Hyper Roll, this is a new addition for Set 8.5 but this will be a replacement for Armories when they appear.

What other champion changes are coming?

We’ve already talked about Lucian’s augment and Neeko’s arrival onto the TFT board with her own new augments. But they won't be alone on the board. They will be joined by Pantheon’s Chronic Hallucinations which will allow players to run melee carries in riskier positions than before as Pantheon’s protection will benefit melee carries.

There is also the addition of Pyke’s Small Game Hunter augment. The Small Game Hunter allows players to win an early streak in their games before opponents can fully level up their own champions. To see the full list of augments check out the official TFT post on Riot Games website.

Can I test out the patch early?

If you are just itching to get your hands on the new patch update early, then don’t worry, where there is a will there is a way. TFT Set 8.5 will go live on PBE on March 8, it will then release across all regions on March 22.
