Riot Games announced the breakdown of the slots at VCT Masters Tokyo, including the fact that China will be getting two spots of their own.
With VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Masters Tokyo only a few months away, Riot Games has announced the distribution of slots for the event.
China and VCT Masters Tokyo
There will be 12 spots for the event, according to the announcement. Three spots will be given to each of the partnered VCT Leagues: Americas, EMEA, and Pacific. Two more slots will be designated for China and will be on an invite basis. The final slot will go to the regional winner of VCT LOCK//IN.
This news arrived on the back of an announcement by Leo Faria, who is the global head of VALORANT Esports at Riot Games. He said in the pre-event press conference at VCT LOCK//IN that China will have its own separate VALORANT League.
"We know thanks to League of Legends how amazing the community is, how dedicated they are and how much effort they put into competing and winning championships, so right now we are building a plan for competitions in China."
VALORANT in China
Near the end of 2022, VALORANT in China became official after the confirmation by the National Administration of Press and Publications of China.
China had its international debut at Champions 2022, with EDward Gaming representing the region. They faced an early group-stage exit after losses to Paper Rex and Team Liquid. At VCT LOCK//IN, they were one of the two invited Chinese representatives, the other being FunPlus Phoenix. The latter was part of the Alpha Bracket at VCT LOCK//IN. They were eliminated right off the bat after losing to Karmine Corp 1-2.
As for EDward Gaming, they will start off with a game against Americas partnered team 100 Thieves in the Omega bracket.
Riot Games has not yet mentioned which operators will be in charge of organizing the Chinese League or other details about it. With how big League of Legends is in the region, it's certainly going to be a big deal.
