G2 Esports vs 100 Thieves kicks off Week 2 of VCT Americas 2024 Stage 1, with the latter desperately needing a victory.

The regular season of the VCT rolls on, with Americas Stage 1 action in full swing. To start the second week, we've got a clouted matchup of G2 Esports vs 100 Thieves.

G2 made quite the statement against Evil Geniuses in Week 1, while 100T fell to defending Masters Madrid Champions, Sentinels. One will look to keep up the momentum, while the other hopes to gain some.

G2 Esports vs 100 Thieves: Who will walk away with a Week 2 victory?

Both teams looked prime to have a big year, but Sentinels outshined them both on their way to a Masters Madrid win. After floundering in the VCT Americas Kickoff tournament, the start of Stage 1 is a way to turn over a new leaf, no pun intended.

G2 Esports already started on that path. With the addition of icy to their roster, dropping neT subsequently, they decimated Evil Geniuses. Only giving up 11 rounds across two maps showed that they are ready to take Americas by storm.

100 Thieves on the other hand were blasted by Sentinels. With a long-standing core and the addition of a World Champion IGL, many expected more out of them. They haven't won an official match since November at Red Bull Home Ground. They'll be looking to change their luck.

A recap and clips are below for you to read what happened during G2 Esports vs 100 Thieves.

Map 1: Bind

100 Thieves had to start strong, and they did with a solid pistol round. The following was theirs, but then G2 got on the board by taking the bonus. The strong start was cut short, as G2's defensive side kept 100T in check. Then a back and forth set of rounds began.

A great 4K by Boostio pushed 100 Thieves ahead in the first half. As they continued with their lead, a 3K by Asuna had G2 reeling. Scrappy site execs were the name of the game for 100 Thieves, but a nice 3K from G2 IGL valyn kept G2 in it. Then halftime approached with a mega clutch by eeiu.

G2 looked to close the gap early on their attack side. The pistol went in their favor, and so did the subsequent round. It cost them just a bit too much, however, as they did not have the firepower to make it three in a row. They did in the next, though, to prevent 100T from immediately reaching double digits.

A slight tech pause occurred, which may have stopped G2's momentum. 100 Thieves held their ground to prevent a plant and get 10 rounds. The next round got 100T to 11, and they looked poised to run away with the rest of the map. And while G2 tried to battle back, 100 Thieves went up in the series.

Map 2: Split

Split began with a couple of quick rounds for G2 Esports. The third round got 100 Thieves their first. G2's attack side was dialed in, keeping them ahead early on. A huge defensive stand on A Site by eeiu brought 100T closer.

The Thieves soon tied it and looked to enter halftime with the round advantage. They would ensure that with a 3K from bang. That was followed by a 3K from Asuna, including a nice Showstopper kill, to take us into halftime on Map 2.

Another pistol round went to G2, and they hoped to claw back into this one as the defending team. In a similar fashion to Bind, 100 Thieves reached nine rounds and were ready to shut down any potential G2 comeback.

With B Site wide open, 100 Thieves hit double digits on Split. G2 got another round, but a wonderful post-plant Viper's Pit setup by 100T gave them 11. G2 was not done yet, though, with a 4K by leaf keeping them alive. It didn't last long, though, as 100 Thieves prevailed to take the series.
