Riot Games shared a big update to the upcoming VCT Ascension Pacific 2024. From its initial venue in Tokyo, Japan, the competition will now take place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 goes to Indonesia

Citing "significant event production delays and tournament quality concerns," Riot Games and the Valorant Esports staff have decided to move Ascension Pacific to Jakarta, Indonesia.

"This was not an easy decision to make, but we are grateful for the support from our Indonesian community. Their fandom and passion played a big part in our decision to move the tournament to Jakarta," wrote Riot Games.

New VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 schedule and format

VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 is now scheduled for September 20-29, 2024. According to Riot, the original tournament format was "heavily restricted" in Tokyo. With the venue change, the competition will now be a double elimination bracket with 10 teams across 8 days. Matches will be best-of-three, while the lower and grand finals will be best-of-five.

Why was VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 moved away from Tokyo, Japan?

Riot Games provided further details past the cited delays and quality concerns. They called this move "necessary for the benefit of our teams and community."

"Unfortunately, we were not able to land on a satisfactory solution in Tokyo to deliver an event of the quality we want. Going forward with the current plan would have forced us to make compromises to the overall quality and accessibility for our fans across APAC," wrote Valorant Esports staff in a post. "We were facing limited broadcast options, restricted format changes and potentially difficult competitive conditions for our teams."

When Tokyo was the venue, the format was vastly different. Group Stage was in a modified GSL Format followed by single elimination Playoffs across 7 game days.

Riot revealed plans for live viewing parties in Japan, but details are not yet available.
