At various esports tournaments, the fighting games community (FGC) highlighted the strengths of quite a few FATAL FURY characters. They are the best to play for competitive success.

Right after the release, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (FATAL FURY CotW) rushed into the world of intense competition. It became part of the SNK World Championship and the Esports World Cup. The best players in the world joined the hype to try and qualify for the prestigious events. Sure, they pick the FATAL FURY characters from the top of the meta.

Sure, the battle balance changes over time, especially with the addition of DLC newcomers. Our FATAL FURY CotW tier list is based on the tournament results, so it reflects the current competitive meta, and we adjust it when updates are out and when their impact is reflected in the FGC esports events.

FATAL FURY CotW tier list

Developers from SNK Corporation released the base game with 17 playable FATAL FURY characters. In addition to them, they’ve prepared five DLC fighters for Season Pass 1.

It’s a nice selection of fighting archetypes for players to emphasize their general preferences and best skills. Focusing on yourself and choosing the character you like the most is always a better idea in fighting games. Still, our FATAL FURY CotW tier list can help you find someone you want to play specifically from the top tiers.

S tier: FATAL FURY characters to dominate tournaments

S tier
Billy, Hotaru, Hokutomaru, Kain

If you check the top 8 standings of FATAL CURY CotW esports tournament, you will certainly find the characters listed there. Currently, they are the best in the game.

Billy received an exceptional showcase during CEO 2025. Four among the top 8 participants played this FATAL FURY character, including the top 3 placements.

Hotaru is generally considered very strong. She is beginner-friendly, but her competitive potential is also impressive. ZJZ, Justin Wong, and Wero Asamiya played her at various events, such as Combo Breaker 2025 and Headstomper 2025.

mok won the SNK Championship Series 2025: Beijing with Hokutomaru. The character is picked by ET, Supernoon, and other top players.

Kain is a character who revealed the might of Reynald in FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves. The player reached the top 2 at Combo Breaker 2025. Fenritti won the Brussels Challenge Major Edition 2025 with Kain. GamerBee played the character at EWC and SWC qualifiers.

A tier: strong but somewhat niche characters

A tier
Marco, Terry, Gato

It’s not an extraordinarily rare occasion to see these FATAL FURY CotW characters picked at esports tournaments, but they are not as widespread as those from the top-most tier.

GO1 mains Marco, and he won Combo Breaker 2025 with this character. Watching him demolish Kain of Reynald was impressive and terrifying.

Terry is an iconic pick within the FATAL FURY community, but he is rather unstable for the top play. DarkAngel won Headstomper 2025 with Terry Bogard to qualify for the SNK World Championship Finals and the FATAL FURY CotW Esports World Cup 2025.

Gato also earned a presence at the big official tournaments. Xian, Poongko, and RB played him.

B tier: occasional tournament presence

B tier
Kevin, Rock, Ronaldo

Now and again, these FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves characters are spotted at esports tournaments. Those are rather smaller events, and players had difficulties winning with such picks.

Kevin was featured in the top 8 of CEO 2025 by Qiuqiu. Coach Steve reached the grand final at City of the Cream LIVE with this character.

Rock is a decent Shoto fighter, one of the best for beginners in FATAL FURY CotW. Being generally good, with no obvious weaknesses or strengths, Rock is a common pick in casual matches. Still, he made it even to some tournaments — SHADOW X played him at Headstomper 2025 to finish 4th.

Ronaldo is a hype character, and competitors take him to the top scene because of the general attention to the real-world person. Sure, it is fun to play Ronaldo, but his fighting game results are not as impressive as in football. Diaphone was on this guy at BAM 15. Ronaldo is often picked in early pools.

C tier: playing FATAL FURY CotW on the casual level

C tier
Mai, B. Jenet, Vox, Preecha, Kim Dong-hwan

Sure, you can take these FATAL FURY characters to the ranked matches or strive for esports perfection with them. In theory, it is possible to win tournaments on these picks, thanks to specific effort. However, B-tier is mainly for casual play.

Mai and B. Jenet are popular among players thanks to their clearly distinguishable features, like fan projectiles and easy mixups.

Vox, Preecha, and Kim Dong-hwan are wonderful to have fun in the game. Make sure they correspond to your personal style, and enjoy the experience.

D tier: fun characters with limited potential

D tier
Salvatore, Tizoc

Salvatore Ganacci is clearly a joke character. Apparently, the real person enjoys this status, and he attended Evo Japan 2025 to have fun with the community. In some situations, Salvatore has plenty of strong features, but in general, he is more about spectacular but goofy moves.

Tizoc is probably in the tier where many fighting games players want to see grapplers. He is a slow and big character in a game infected with fireballs. Only some potential buffs can make him more viable.

Time is needed to figure out how good FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves DLC characters are. Season 1 should be over in early 2026. We hope to receive Season 2, at least, so the tier list will be richer with new faces, and after more tournaments.
