Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters that NEED to happen

These characters would be great additions to Mortal Kombat 1!

Mortal Kombat 1 is rapidly approaching, and the confirmed roster takes the series back to its roots. However, if we have learned anything over the years, NetherRealm is always prepared to feature unexpected DLC characters. Unfortunately, leaks ahead of the Mortal Kombat 1 release date have seemingly blown the lid off the first DLC round.

While we won't spoil those here, some characters left off that list would make great additions to Mortal Kombat 1. Here are some fighters we would love to see in the new game.

Neo or Trinity

Neo or Trinity from The Matrix film series is an easy fit in Mortal Kombat. In fact, Neo was initially slated for a guest appearance in Injustice 2. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition. As a Warner Bros. intellectual property, it makes sense for Neo or Trinity to appear as Mortal Kombat 1 DLC.

Both characters could utilize the bullet time aspect that makes The Matrix unique, along with the iconic black trenchcoat and sunglasses look. Also, it would be a reasonable excuse to feature Keanu Reaves in the legendary fighting game series.

Shredder

Fans are clamoring for Shredder to become a Mortal Kombat 1 DLC character, and it's challenging to argue. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' archenemy already sports an incredible look that would suit the MK aesthetic. While Shredder's steel claw weapons echo the Tarkatan warrior, Baraka, we have seen the Xenomorph Alien with a similar build back in Mortal Kombat X.

Following the Ninja Turtles DLC inclusion in Injustice 2, Shredder deserves a spot in Mortal Kombat. It's ultimately up to Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios to decide. Although, he did just show up in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Chucky = the perfect Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Kameo character

The Mortal Kombat series is no stranger to having horror movie icons appear in their games. It all began in Mortal Kombat 2011 (MK9) when Freddy Krueger debuted as a DLC character post-launch. Then, MKX featured Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Predator, and Alien.

Who better to include in Mortal Kombat 1 DLC than Chucky from Child's Play? He's abrasive and violent and would be an ideal Kameo character. We know NetherRealm plans to include separate primary and Kameo fighters, so why not?

Doomslayer

Guest video game characters are rare in the Mortal Kombat series. The last occurred in MK9, with the PlayStation-exclusive Kratos. NetherRealm should deviate from its reliance on movies and comics and bring in Doomslayer from the iconic Doom series.

Firearm-based DLC fighters are standard in Mortal Kombat; John Rambo, Terminator, and Robocop are just a few worth naming. Not many video game characters possess more firepower than Doomslayer. The space marine would settle nicely into Mortal Kombat 1 DLC.

Any of the Universal Monsters would be great for Mortal Kombat 1 DLC

In the same vein of horror characters in Mortal Kombat, there isn't a more impressive collection than the Universal monsters. Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, Wolf Man, and The Mummy all exist under this banner. While it is unlikely, the sky is the limit for move sets and fatalities for any of these creatures.

A bruting force such as Frankenstein's Monster would be an excellent addition to Mortal Kombat 1. So too, would be the Creature from the Black Lagoon or Dracula, some of the first characters of their kind. Universal might disagree, but there's no question these monsters would be outstanding options.

Who would you like to see on the Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters list? The game launches in September 2023 on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Learn more about the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test here!
