CCL Regional Playoffs: Fisher and UoNA secure LAN spots

Fisher and UoNA are two of the first four teams to notch spots at LAN

CCL Regional Playoffs have come and gone and the first four teams to qualify for the LAN Championship event have been decided.

The College CoD season has reached its climax, with teams beginning to gain passage through to the $40K LAN Championship event. Two teams beat out their entire regions in the East in order to become two of the first four teams to book their spots.

Fisher owns the Northeast

Heading into the Regional Playoffs for College CoD, there were clear favourites in the Northeast. Fisher dismantled everyone in the regular season, finishing with a perfect 11-0 record.

That untouchable record continued into the playoffs, Fisher didn't even drop a map in the Playoff bracket until the upper bracket semis, where they lost a Round 11 to Western. A quick bounce back with a 3-0 on Control and they were back on track.

Farmingdale made the expected run on the other side of the bracket as the number one and number two seeded teams met in the final of the upper bracket. Farmingdale could only replicate what Western did, taking a single map from Fisher.

Fisher have one of the best-constructed rosters in the CCL. This is thanks, in part, to having a former Call of Duty World Champion on the books in the form of Justin "Silly" Fargo. Dillon "Wrecks" Slotter is also on the team. He has consistently made Challengers Elite series in the Modern Warfare 2 season.

They were the wholehearted favourites to take the title in the region and they did without any real scares. When Farmingdale came back from the lower bracket to the grand final, they were comfortably dispatched 3-0.

  • Justin "Silly" Fargo
  • Dillon "Wrecks" Slotter
  • Sebastian "Gunsii" Martinez
  • Vlad "RambyBamby" Sanchez

UoNA take the Southeast crown

Much like in the Northeast, there were only really two teams that could stake a name for a chance of coming away with qualification in the CCL Regional Playoffs.

Mars Hill and UoNA were number one and number two seeded heading into the playoffs. As such they were the two teams that filled out the grand final.

The storylines for the Southeast came further back in the bracket. Number four LSU fell to number 13 Florida Gulf Coast in a clean sweep in LSU's first game of the Playoffs. LSU made a brief lower bracket run before being taken out by number ten Alabama Crimson.

Number five Newberry managed to make the run to the lower final after number one seeded Mars Hill took them down in the upper bracket. They met Mars Hill again after they lost in the upper bracket final. Once again, they couldn't get one up on the one seed.

Mars Hill got back to the grand final but were once again met by the unrelenting force of UoNA. The team that was playing in LATAM Challengers last season came away with a clean 3-0 to secure their spot at LAN.

UoNA LAN qualified roster:

  • Aaron "Aaron" Silva
  • Luciano "Lucho" Belziti
  • Tomas "ZooNer" Roda
  • Martin "Desmays" Scott

One more chance

CCL Regional Playoffs aren't the only avenue through to LAN. There is also a last-chance LAN qualifier. All of the teams that placed 2nd-4th in each region will compete against each other for the last remaining four spots at the eight-team LAN Championship event.

Groups are random. Four groups of three teams will play. They will play round-robin play followed by a single elimination playoff where the winners will qualify for the LAN Championship event.

CCL LAN Championship event is still to be announced but will feature the eight qualifying teams playing for their share of $40,000.
