Old G stares at uncertain future with N0tail having second thoughts on competing

The latest MBS podcast reveals that Old G might still compete in the next qualifier but N0tail is not ready for the commitment.

Old G, comprising the TI-winning trio and notable veterans, is one of the hottest teams in Dota 2 last season. "N0tail" Sundstein, Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen, and Sébastien "Ceb" Debs reunited to make an official return to competitive Dota 2. Despite failing in their first attempt, fans are looking forward to seeing Old G play in the next DPC qualifiers. However, we might not see N0tail in the next season as he expresses reluctance to commit. There is also a possibility that Old G might not compete at all in the upcoming Tour 2.

N0tail is not ready to go down the competitive path once again

In the 53rd episode of the MBS podcast, N0tail and Ceb talked about plenty of topics including WEU Division I result, Topson's driving progress, Daxak's situation with HellRaisers, and more. But most significantly, the duo addresses what many are most curious about: What happened to Old G?

N0tail stated that watching TI11 gave him a lot of motivation but after making the return to competitive Dota with Old G, he realized that he is not ready to commit. He highlights that the path is going to be painful and he is not willing to make sacrifices.

"I was very thankful and very happy to have gotten the experience. I wasn't sure, after watching TI also, I felt a lot of things that I haven't felt in a while. It gave me a lot of motivation to try but after trying and coming back and getting a chance to play on a high level - of course it's not super high level or anything - but just to play competitively, at a much higher level than pubs, be a team again.. it made me realize so many things about myself and about what I want and what I don't want. Definitely what I don't want is sacrificing everything again to get where I have to get and I know I have to go down this path if I kept playing and kept losing," said N0tail.

Old G's loss affected them more than they expected

The 29-year-old also revealed that Old G's loss had affected them a lot. He describes the European competitive scene as deadly and intense, and it makes it harder for him to return to the Dota grind.

I think everybody felt the same way when we lost, it really hurt more than it should have or than we thought it would have. Overall I'm very happy but moving forward I don't think I can sacrifice to Dota on this path again.

"It's a treacherous thing. I think everybody felt the same way when we lost, it really hurt more than it should have or than we thought it would have. Overall I'm very happy but moving forward I don't think I can sacrifice to Dota on this path again." N0tail continued. "I just know what it comes with or at least for myself, I know what it'll take for me. I'm living for too many things right now, this time anyway, to come back into the Dota grind. Especially in Europe, it's deadly, it's very intense."

Ceb responded and emphasized the difficulties of making a return in the competitive scene. "Getting back on the grind is like double the effort of grinding itself. Restarting the machine, knowing where it leads, is harder in a way. It's really not easy," said Ceb.

Is Old G disbanding?

Although the title of the podcast states Old G's disbandment, it seems like its future is still very uncertain. N0tail makes it clear that he's reluctant to compete and if Old G remains, he is likely not going to join the team in their next endeavor.

"What's going to happen with Old G and with everybody's future is still up in the air. I can only say for myself that I'm probably not ready to grind," N0tail concluded.
