Did NetherRealm just reveal the first look of Mortal Kombat 12?

Is it time to ‘finish him’ once more? Here’s a ten second clip that tells us absolutely nothing!

Will they? Won't they? Where's the next Mortal Kombat? The Warner Brothers and Discovery merger of the past few years seemingly put the MK franchise on ice. However, now that HBO is simply known as MAX it appears that the work of decapitating folks in gruesome ways can continue. In a social media post celebrating the 30-year anniversary of the franchise it also appears we got our first look at Mortal Kombat 12.

And it looks time time is out for the MK universe.

First look: Mortal Kombat 12

NetherRealm's silence about their most popular game franchise has been deafening. Never before has a studio not saying anything about the next game in a series also felt like a bullhorn announcing said game. Released in April 2019, Mortal Kombat 11 almost feels like a game from a completely different era. It certainly is the longest game in game releases for the studio in a long time. Never before has the lack of an Injustice 3 felt more painful.

But that no longer matters, as we now have a short first look at Mortal Kombat 12, brought to us on social media by Ed Boon himself. "Thank you for thirty years of amazing support, and we're not quite done yet," said the Mortal Kombat co-creator before an extremely short teaser rolled.

The clip showcases an hourglass exploding after running out of sand, which brings about multiple potential consequences for the Mortal Kombat universe.

After all, the end of MK 11 saw the big, time-travelling baddie Kronika getting her just desserts. Does this mean that time-travel shenanigans are over with and the Mortal Kombat 12 timeline is something new? I have absolutely no clue, and neither does anyone else!

C'mon, man: It's a ten second teaser. All it really means is that we're probably going to see an official reveal of Mortal Kombat 12 later this year. So, look forward to that and begin workshopping which guest characters you want to see decapitated this time around. Maybe we'll finally get Bruce Campbell's Ash in one of these.
