How to upgrade your EVO shields in Season 20 of Apex Legends

Red shields, here we come!

Apex Legends has dramatically changed how EVO shields work. Prior to Season 20, shields could only be improved by doing damage or, if you were lucky, by finding better shields in random ground loot or bins.

The entire shield system has been completely overhauled and is now tied to Legend perks. Since those perks are so important to the gameplay of Apex Legends, players can now upgrade their shields through a range of different methods.

Here are the best ways to upgrade your EVO shields in Apex Legends Season 20!

Upgrade your shields by killing enemies

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. One of the most reliable ways to upgrade your shields is by damaging and knocking enemies teams or wiping environmental enemies, like spiders or Prowlers.

The benefit of the new shield updates is that enemy teams won’t have purple shields from pure luck. That makes it easier to trade damage and upgrade your shields without getting wiped off the map.

Doing a finisher on an enemy also gives an additional 100 EVO points!

Use EVO Harvesters and EVO Caches to upgrade your shields

One brand new feature for Season 20 of Apex Legends is the EVO Harvester and EVO Cache. EVO Harvesters spawn randomly around the map, and are marked by a yellow logo. Harvesters activate when there is about 40 seconds left on the first ring timer.

How to use EVO Harvesters and EVO Caches to upgrade shields in Apex Legends

EVO Harvesters and EVO Caches are some of the easiest ways to help upgrade EVO Shield.

EVO Harvesters award EVO to your entire team. Just walk up, interact, and you’re all set! The best part is that the EVO Harvester gives an upgrade to your entire team, so you don't need to worry about who gets to it first.

EVO caches are rarer, spawning in care packages, so definitely always check those out for a shield boost! These will only award EVO to the player that claims them, so be tactical with who grabs this item from the package.

Do Legend Class specific tasks

Legend Classes were first introduced in Season 16. Each Class grants its Legends special abilities or access to unique map features, like survey beacons or special loot bins. Control Legends are able to scan Ring Consoles and Support Legends can craft expired teammate banners.

Season 20 has added on to this feature by rewarding players with EVO shield points whenever they complete one of these tasks. This includes scanning beacons, opening special loot bins, and all other unique Class abilities.

As of the beginning of the Season, teams with a Control Legend can double up on their EVO shields points in the early game. To do this, you’ll have to land on a point of interest (POI) and scan the Ring Beacon immediately when you hit the ground. Once the first ring spawns, you can hit the beacon a second time. Doing this twice in a row will grant your team a nice bump of EVO shield points early in the game.

However, it seems likely that Respawn will patch out this strategy as it gives a big advantage to Control Legends that other classes don’t receive.
