Overwatch 2 players have reason to look forward to Season 10 thanks to an exciting announcement from the developers. In the latest developer update, it was revealed that all future heroes in Overwatch 2 will be available for free to all players. This is great news as players no longer need to grind the Battle Pass or purchase heroes through microtransactions anymore. It appears Overwatch 2 Season 10 intends to bring some big quality of life changes and this is great news for the players!
Will previously released Overwatch 2 heroes also be free?
Yes, indeed. As part of the developer update on March 19, they announced that every hero in the game will be free to pick for all players. Note that this only applies to players who have completed the first-time user experience. New players who have only just begun the game will still need to complete it. Once new players have unlocked access to the complete roster from the original Overwatch, every hero in the game will be available to pick. This also means that any future heroes, including Venture, the Season 10 hero, will be playable upon release.
The original decision by Overwatch 2 developers to lock heroes behind a paywall or Battle Pass grind was quite controversial and drew criticism from players. Thankfully, this is no longer the case and players can enjoy new heroes as soon as they release without having to pay money or grind for hours.
Players can earn more Overwatch Coins
Another exciting piece of news is that starting in Season 10, players can earn Overwatch Coins, the game's premium currency, from the Battle Pass. This will be possible from both the free and premium tracks of the Battle Pass. The number of Overwatch Coins players can earn each season is up, as a result of this, from 540 to 600. Meanwhile, weekly challenges will soon reward Battle XP from Season 10 onwards.
