Overwatch 2 developers reveal plan for upcoming heroes

Overwatch 2 is short on dynamic support heroes but that is changing in the near future, according to Aaron Keller.

The next two heroes coming to Overwatch 2 will be support.
Overwatch 2 has been met with mixed reviews from long-time Overwatch fans. The more aggressive gameplay and one-tank team compositions have made for faster-paced matches. But it has also left some heroes in the dust — even after tweaks to their abilities. This includes the support class.
The support heroes have been the most frustrating part of Overwatch 2's ever-growing roster. Most of the existing support heroes don't have the mobility options to keep up with current metas and are easily targeted by the opposing team. Some don't have the most helpful abilities in the current meta as well.
But this may be changing in the near future.

Overwatch 2 to get support heroes with new mechanics

In an interview with NME, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller discussed support heroes and their role in the new game. The main issue, Keller admitted, is that support heroes currently have "the least amount of choice."
This is something developers are working on changing going forward.
Right now, the Overwatch 2 team is focused on supports and the next two heroes coming to the game will be healing-related. The specifics of the heroes were not revealed, but Keller did state that the kits will bring something new to the roster.
"They bring some things to the game that we haven't seen before. Some new mechanics and really exciting ways of interacting with your own team," Keller said. "We don't want all of the heroes to feel same-y. We don't want the tempo of every fight in the game to feel the same every month."
So far, the identity of the support heroes is a mystery. Developers have hinted in the past, however, that heroes from within Overwatch's lore may be brought onto the roster.
"There’s plenty, especially with the world of Overwatch being so rich. I think a lot of those characters that you haven’t seen become heroes, I think one day we definitely want to explore what they would be like as a hero," lead hero designer Alec Dawson told GameSpot.
